Ignition Problems MSD Cap Please Help
Car- 2000 Integra gs-r
So tonight i attempted to replace the Honda distributor cap, rotor, and coil with MSD parts, bad idea!
I hooked up all the msd stuff and the car would not turn over. I tried a few things and still no luck. It was getting late so i decided to just put it back to stock and try another time but when i did the car still would not turn over.
I double checked everything and i am pulling my hair out because i have to go to work in the morning.
I put the stock coil back in, hooked up the coil wires, put the dust cover, rotor, then cap back on.
The way i have the wires hooked up is like this
34
12 4321
Is there something i am overlooking?
One thing i did that might be the problem is when i took the distributor cap off the screw for the rotor was not accessible so i cranked the engine over a few times so that i could see the screw to remove the rotor.
What am i doing wrong? Please help guys, and gals.

so i have been searching on the net all day at work and still cant figure out what might be wrong.
When i get home i will have to check the coils and the igniter module with a multimeter, if that does not work i dont know what the hell to do.
Anyone have any ideas.

I have iriduim plugs and MSD wires and was looking into the cap rotor and coil and everything I read said not to do the coil unless you have an ignition box. Not sure if this helps, but unless you have a box, take it off!!!
OK so here is an update.
I just got done reading about 30 posts using the search term "No spark", No help.
I got a different OEM distributor and it still would not start, I found out i was not getting any spark.
The new distributor comes with the coil and Igniter so i think i can rule those parts out.
I listened closely to the main relay and it clicks once then twice before i try and crank the engine, so i dont think its that.
I can hear the fuel pump turn on and i have a pressure gauge on top of my filter and it reads 45psi, so the fuel system is good.
My next step was to try and pull a code.
I jumped the plug next to the ecu with a paper clip
turned the key to the on position and something really weird happened.
The Check engine light lit up and then went off, however
the ABS light displayed a number of blinks. It was 9 long blinks and 1 short. This really has me confused because i thought the check engine light is supposed to blink.
I am really stumped. Any help would be awesome.
I am going to check a few things when i get home and see if any of this works.
1. Check cam gears for TDC, maybe belt jumped.
2. Double check distributor harness and make sure
none of the wires are popped out.
3. Tripple check the coil and make sure it is not
internally grounded to the distributor case.
4. Tripple check to make sure i am definetely not getting
any spark, use timing light method.
5. Check tailpipe and make sure no one stuck a
bannana in there! (I dont know what else to do!)
6. Check compression
7. Open ecu make sure its not burnt up.
8. Make sure gas cap is on!
If there is anyone in the Schenectady, Albany area that is free this weekend and likes a good challange i am right in
rotterdam. Maybe someone can stop by and give a fellow TI member a hand. I would definetly throw in a case of beer for free, or a couple of bucks.

msd cap and rotor kits are worthless. the stock ignition is good for like 300 hp plus. my suggestion is to dump the msd and go back to stock. just my .02
There is no such thing as abs code 91. You sure you are reading it right? Maybe its 81?

I wouldn't think an abs malfunction is related to your starting issues though.

So that could be a problem with the abs in addition to the staring issues?
Lets say it is the ABS code 81 Central Processing Unit (CPU), is there a way to disable the ABS just to see if the car will start. Maybe remove the fuse or unplug the harness?

OK so heres another update.
Last night i rented a OBD scanner from the parts store,
Hooked it up and NO CODES FOUND! Makes my job that much harder!
I have a bunch of tests im going to try today. Any insight would be awesome.

Here is another update:
I tested for spark at the plug side of the wire - Nothing.
So then i tested for spark at the cap - Nothing.
Then i tested for spark at the coil, I actually just put my finger on the secondary tower while my girlfriend cranked the car.
2 out of 3 times i got a jolt, but it felt very weak, I mean i could keep my finger on there with no problem.
Now that i know this i am thinking it is definetely the coil. The only thing that has me second guessing myself is
that i have 3 coils that i tried. I have another coil from a used distributor, and i have the used MSD coil.
Since they are both used i guess i have to consider that both of them could be no good.
I tested all 3 coils and all of them were not in spec.
I am actually going to JapanStar today to exchange the distributor for another, hopefully the coil in this one is good.
If this does not work then i dont know what else to do, I have no choice but to have it towed to Northeast Acura.
I really dont want to do that but i am pulling my hair out over this damn thing.

go into the seach option and search "msd ignition" there are a bunch of people complaining about msd. actually there are more people that say its junk and their car doesn't run right with it than good talk about it.
