Idle Control System Failiure..... help :)
Idle is constant at 12-1300... If i idle too long, itll jump to 1400 then 1450 then back down to 1400 then 1450.. etc.. very quickly.
Ran this through the OBD 2 scanner, it's an Idle Control System failiure...
So i'm assuming, if i break it down.. it can be one of the following..
Idle Air Control Valve
Fast Thermo Idle Valve
Or maybe even the idle control screw?
Any ideas as to what can be done to determine the problem without going out and replacing everything right off the get go? Any sort of home remedies?

Printed up the helms, basically told me what to do to figure out if it is infact one of the three.. hence how i deduced that it had to be the IACV FTIV or even as a further extent.. the screw..
The thing is.. it only really talks about a higher then normal idle with a warmed engine...
I'm looking at what would make the idle more unstable after 30 seconds or so... is that considered a "rough" idle?

Cover the holes in the TB...the bottom one goes to the fast idle, the one on the side goes to the IACV. Or you can unhook the IACV(back towards the firewall) on the IM, just unplug the connector).
in no expert, but out of the three possible causes you listed, the only one that makes sense is the iacv - the fitv is only used when starting the car cold, and unless your idle screw is rattling around in your tb its probably not that either - i would try testing the iacv (pg 11-82 and 11-83)... one last thought - isnt there a way to get a more specific reading than just idle system control failure?

is the engine hot or cold when this happens? if its cold id say its the fitv, why, cause mine did the same thing. i replaced the plunger inside the fitv itself and it fixed my idle, although mine was surging. if its just high and stays high it could be a vacuum leak. try and cap all your vacuum hoses and see if you can isolate a single port or hose. you could also have a leak in your tb plate. adjust the screw or push it closed manually. it may stick open due to carbon deposits.
