Default I need an opinion...

I bought a 97 GSR, with 77k miles on it, clean but with a few scratches on it, I haven't done anything to it yet, but the previous owner installed a cold air intake, VAFC controller (as many call it "V-Tec controller), and I must say its a pretty quick car, being that my previous car (also my 1st car) was a slow *** isuzu pickup, I have raced quite a bit and I must say how supprised I am as to the cars I have beaten or at the least keeped up with, I have beaten a Z28 on the highway, I was mabey a couple of feet in front and pulling slightly, I've keeped up with a 5.0 mustang (to my suprise), but I expected him to blow me away (he still beat me though), on another occasion I beat a 98 four door civic with a b16 swap, and I also barely beat an SRT-4. Now the 97 GSR is rated at 170hp at the flywheel as many of you already know, now my reasoning for beating these cars with far more hp is that they didn't push their cars to the max (as a result of not knowing how to race), because when I race, i'll launch it at 3 to 3.5k rpm's and take every gear to 8000 rpm's and no less. Now my V-Tec is set to kick in at 5000 rpm's, thats what the previous owner had it set at, and because I don't know what the stock V-Tec kicks in at, I have left it alone, and not messed with my VAFC controler, Now how much difference doe's a VAFC and cold air intake do? How much power can it acctually give you?

5 whp. you need other **** for a vafc to make an effect. it also needs to be dyno tuned. you could blow your motor messing w/ it.

also, im calling BS on you beating an SRT-4. they run 13's stock. maybe the guy was a shitty driver and you beat him, but your car is not faster than his.

also, welcome. and make sure you search before you post stupid threads(not so much this one), or youll get your *** handed to you

im editing this post because i only get 5 today

"Also, and here's the REAL advice: NEVER advertise that you were street racing on h-t. You will get flamed a milion times. It is illegal and dangerous, and don't think i'm a ***** for saying that"

take your car to your local autox. http://www.solo2.org youll have some real fun and really learn to drive your car. and you WILL get smashed by miatas, civics, crxs, saturns, celicas and maybe even pickup trucks untill you learn to drive. and even if you think you can, you cant. its a reality check

VAFC can work pretty decent ( ) when used to tune all your other mods (and i'm talking like intake manifolds, cams, rods/pistons, etc... and NOT just an intake)

It's quite useless to you as of now, and as said above, only gives you a couple extra ponies, but keep it

Also, and here's the REAL advice: NEVER advertise that you were street racing on h-t. You will get flamed a milion times. It is illegal and dangerous, and don't think i'm a ***** for saying that

Yeah I beat an SRT-4, to my supprise, but I din't say that my car was faster, I just assumed that the driver of the SRT-4 didn't push his car to the max, which im like 99.9% sure that is what happened, unless he was having car problems.

As far as street racing goes, I avoid it at all costs as I am paranoid about police, on some occasions, I have done dumb **** like that, but here where I live there's only an 1/8mile drag strip thats geting shut down because the owner is ******* broke, so alot of people here go to an abadoned airstrip to race, the police took notice of it, but now on weekends races are held there legaly with all the safety equipment and such, and there's police officers there to "keep the peace", and they do it to try to keep people from racing on the streets, because not to long ago it was a big problem here. I did mention how I raced a z28 on the highway, that was stupid and I should have known better, but its human nature to do **** your not supposed to be doing, and we all fuckup at one point or another, being that I never acctually used the words "street racing" all you could do is assume I went street racing, so my bad if I didn't have enought info in my first post to let yall know that I wasn't street racing. Im new to this forum, and I was just looking for some opinion from people who know and deal with and has experience with this subject, and this is the best place I have found so far.

My car right now is exactly as I bought it from the previous owner, I have not messed with the VAFC at all as I have read elsewhere that you can serously damage your engine, and thats why I came here to get some advise from people that have "been there & done that"

yeah, bs on the SRT-4, and I dont know about them with 13's, at least around here the best I've seen stock is some low 14's . . . and I personally wouldn't flame about street racing. Agreed that it's dangerous and hazardous not only to YOUR health, but others on the road as well. Despite all that, the track can't/ and never will give me the rush I get from playin around in town.

oh yeah, and get some DSM 450's and put the VAFC to use by piecing together the rest of your kit and leaning the fuel out -40% before Vtec and -38% afterwards . . . . boost pwns
