I Need Help Please
can someone please help me? this is the first im running a v-tec. i have a GSR motor and the v-tec doesnt seem to be kicking in like it should be. this is goin to sound funny but i knew something was wrong when i lost to a stock 89 Prlude SI. i dont know what could be wrong with the motor or know why the v-tec isnt kickin in. do any of you have any ideas if so please help me out. PLEASE
i was racing the prelude and the v-tec didnt kick in at all. i was shiftin at like 5500 and no v-tec. i thought that maybe it was teh v-tec solenoid but im not sure. i also talked to a honda dealer and they said that the v-tec solenoids themselves dont usually go. i was lookin at my motor and used what i think might be oil near the gaskets of the solenoid. i have tryed everything to see if the v-tec was kickin in but no luck. i even bounced it off the rev limiter to see if i got anything. i know the v-tec runs off oil pressure so i wonder if thats what the problem is. if any of you have anymore ideas please share them i appreciate the help i got so far.
you were racing and shifted at 5500?
besides the point, that oil you are seeing near the solenoid was probably a leaky cam seal...sounds to me like perhaps you might want to go see a technician

first off vtec xover is usually right around 5500 rpms - therefore it is possible that you could be shifting before vtec kicks - second if you have oil leaking around the solenoid it probably nedds a new oring/filter - lastly you losing to an old prelude could be caused by anything from your car needing a tune-up to you shifting at 5500 rpms - or maybe the old lude was turbod
EDIT - it depends where the oil is leaking from
