Default How effective are wheel locks?

Hi, I did a search on this topic but i didn't find much.

I was wondering how effective wheel locks are. Is it one of those security things that really only slows someone down who is dedicated to stealing your stuff? Or is it a pretty effective deterrent?

I mean, are the wheel locks unique as far as what it takes, shape-wise to remove them or is there a universal tire iron that can remove them fairly easily.

I don't really want to get into methods on how to steal people's stuff, but if anyone could give me a fair idea of how effective they are, it would be much appreciated.

Sorry this is so vague..

thanks,

-J

you can always find a set of 7 sided lugs. I think you can get those from griots or something. Those are just about fool proof. From what I've noticed, they are quite effective.

I had bought two cars with locks on them and I had to bust them off. The right size socket x4, a hammer, and a breaker bar can take them right off. These were the OEM looking ones with the flower looking thing in the middle. Tire places have a tool to take them off too, so if someone can get ahold of one of these, wheel locks come off easy. So wheel locks will slow a person down by a little bit, that's all.

yeah they can snap off pretty easy with the right amount of force...
its more of a thing to slow them down and hope they give up.
just like every other security device invented for our integras.
if there is a will...there is a way.
sad but true
best thing to do...get two sets of wheel locks...

a local tire shop I've been too charges $5 for each locknut they have to take off without a key... that should give you an idea of how much security its worth.

pff, the gorillas i have have a universal key!!! I've had kyokugen, oem, gorilla, some other "jdm" brand...and mcguards. Personally, use whatever lug nuts you want and have the one oem wheel lock on each wheel. That should slow the thief down enough if they really want your wheels. I had my wheels jacked w/ stock lug nuts (no wheel locks)....will never do that again! (btw, i got my wheels back )

It will slow down thieves, but if you have an integra they'll just try and steal the whole car instead of just the wheels anyway.

Put it this way... If a thief really wanted your car. It'd be gone.

Best thing to get is rim insurance. Everyone knows how easy it is to steal rims. My friend got his 24's stolen off his dodge ram in under 30 minutes, and he had 2 sets of wheel locks.
