Default How To: Amber Clock

Well this is a little weaksauce but I'm far to cheap to buy a JDM clock when I can make my own for a 1/4 of the price. So laugh and poke fun all you want.

Disclaimer: As usual, you do this mod of your own free will. If you screw up, it's your fault.

List of materials:
#1 flat head screw driver
Tamiya clear orange paint
foam brush
masking tape

Step 1: Take the clock out. I used my key to do this. Slip the key under and pop it out. Undo the connector at the back. Here it is out of the car.

Step 2: You need to take the clock apart. Start by removing the silver tabs on the side.

Then undo the 4 black clips, 2 on top and 2 on the bottom.

Now you can pull it apart.

Step 3: Mask it up with masking tape.

Step 4: Get your paint and foam brush and paint the clock. I did 2 coats.

Finished.

Step 5: Reassemble the clock.

Step 6: Put it back in the car. Pics are at night because I did this late at night.
Lights off:

Lights off:

Enjoy and flame away at my cheapness.
I did this so it will look better with the S2000 cluster I'm swapping in.

Nice, there are also less permanent ways of doing this such as using amber translucent tape.

Doesn't look very amber to me IMO. Kinda a yellow from my screen. Maybe it's just a craptastic camera.

LOLZ, it's not the camera it's my crappy photo skills.
After 7 cups of coffee it's very difficult to hold a camera steady.

During the day it's 100% orange/amber, at night it's a bit lighter, maybe a few more coats of paint will work.

It's not going to be your autofocus, it's going to be because you don't have proper lighting. So what happens it makes the picture blurry.

I suggest changing the setting to a low light setting with no flash. Something on those lines. Pretty sure that will fix your low light blurry pictures.

I had it set for low light but after 7 cups of coffee, I couldn't hold the camera straight.

I'll take another pic when I go out tonight.

nice write-up..

For better results you could of used a binder/divider tab..

Over a period of time the heat and that paint will dull out and loose color..

looks real good. ive always been one to modify things cheap and custom. all my corner lights and side markers i cracked open at the seam and took the amber out and painted the tops and bottoms in black. spent $1.37 instead of close to $100. never thought of the clock though, im about to do that

the best way to do this is take the binder dividers you used to have in school

use 1 orange and 1 red one and wedge between both covers

this works perfect
