higher comp on Ls
(b18b)If I increase the comp to 10.5:1 with some SRP pistons and I change the rod bolts with ARP....but keep stock internals and stock cams, could I still bring red line from 7200 to 8000????
( I want to do cams and valve springs and containers but I don't have the $$$ right now, thinking of doing the pistons cause I have to change the head gasket)

first off, compresion ratio has nothing to do with being abel to rev higher. If you want to be abel to rev higher (safely & reliable) then upgrade your valvetrain, springs, retainers...ect... rod bolts is always a plus but not a absolute must have, although I do recomend rod bolts. oh and you need to chip your ecu or get hondata or uberdata to cut off the rev limiter.
And why would you want to rev higher? Look at it this way... there's no point in reving higher if your not gonna be abel to make more power, and with "stock" internals you will NOT be making more power. A BIG part of being able to rev higher and still keep making power is the cams.
There's a ton more on this subject that I don't feel like going into, because I already spent too much time on this noobish question.
anyone else feel free to correct me if im wrong.

beavis is totally right. To rev to 8k you valve springs need to be able to compress and rebound that fast. Stock LS crap cant. LS cams wont make power up at 8k.
LS is probably the worst platform to build for All motor.
LS is probably the worst platform to build for All motor.
just depends on how you look at it. go to nonvtec.com, theres a guy there with an LS hatch and he puts down 172whp and around 136FT-LBS to the wheels. And its not only strong when in vtec, it pulls that power around 6k something cause its nonvtec. I say drop some cams, valvetrain and boost with something good to tune with.

lurker here,
mind explaining why its the worst?

i wouldnt say its the worst, its just not what the bandwagon goes with...any engine properly built will do good. in order to run to 8k effectively you need cams to produce power that high, stronger valve springs, higher compression if you want, stronger rod bolts, and better bearings...the ls engine have bi-metal..tri-metal bearing like its vtec counter part have can take the added stress. i myself am in the process of getting my 2 ls motors built, one for boost and the other N/A
and the guy reddainteg is talking about more than likely is hybrid_vtec here is here on the board and on non-vtec.com...BTW go look around on non-vtec.com and see what other people are building.

Thanks guys...the plan is now crower 403 cams with dual springs and Ti retainers, 10.5:1 SRP psitons and Arp rod, crank and head bolts....plus get it tuned for 8000 red line!!!
Does this work???

i ran my friends integra in the quarter mile... he has a 91 with a fresh 95 b18b1, an intake, exhaust and chipped ecu with no redline. i have a 92 with an intake and exhaust. i pulled on him in 3rd gear and he was shifting at 8000.

now he has: crane cams, blox intake manifold, type r pistons/rods/crank, and his car is disappointing. he gets beat by a I/E b16a hatch. and it wasnt done wrong; hes been working at a local speedshop for like 4 years.

Thanks for the info, I'm running my 98 jdm b18b with clutch and all the bolt-ons and I've never lost against a all moter b16a2...my 1/4 mile is 15.1 right now!!
I guess there are alot of variables???

well this hatch ran a 15.0 on 185 tires. the integra i mentioned ran a 14.5 with a 60 shot.

id say if you want to build your ls for high revving. you complete the internals in the head. port flow valve train, ferrera valves, skunk2 cams, and get some better rods and higher comp. pistons for the bottom end. dont rev to 8k iif you arent making reliable power at those rpms.
keep in mind this is going to cost you a lot of cash for all these parts.
id hate to say go turbo cause its alot of maintenence, but if you want power.. when tuned and built right.. turbo is where its at.
good luck.

The final is p30 piston, arp rod bolts, crower 403 cams with dual springs + Ti retainers!
I will tune but keep the red line at 7200 and rev limiter at 7500rmps!!
With my bolt ons and ACT cluct + flywheel....it's should be a good setup fr now!!

might i also add that the engine isnt that worst platform....neither is it the best, but the ls transmission hinders performance because the gearings so long. a short gear transmission (b16, gsr, itr) will greatly effect the the acceleration of the ls engine. you should keep your stock retainers,,,,Ti one from what ive heard tend to wear down after a while, and also opt for the 404's

I could keep my current retainers eh!!!! I have a contact looking for a Liited slip jdm tranny for me so that's definitly going to happen!!!

if you really want a good starting point contact user hybrid_vtec he is a wealth of info on this type of build. he has one him self

yeah thats true, our cars wimply werent made to accelerate fast
i mean today almost every 2005 car is comparable or quicker than an LS stock vs. stock
even malibus and cavaliers etc. are either just as quick or quicker

lol, i dont know what car your driving, but i dont have any problems with them...lol. i can get the jump on srt4's and sometimes take equally modded gsr's and si's

im comparing the quarter mile times. almost all cars today run 15s from the factory; you have to be a pretty good driver to pull a high 15 from a bone stock LS.
i dont race on the streets very often so i couldnt really tell you how my 92 LS fares against alot of cars. but ive beaten almost every NA DA that ive raced, if that means anything
edit: changed my previous post

yea at the track i raced a srt4 a few times and all the times i would jump on him, but in the long run lose. but in all my races ive only lose to a few integras, civics with swaps or FI. but i did race one d-series turbo and i hung with him. but now adays i dont street race anymore. i think i have a freak ls
