I bought a 98 gsr 2 weeks ago. And ive been jus having all sort of issues..first I've been losing oil..I can see were the oil is jus not from where..but that's not the issue..today wen I was driving I hit vtech and it sounded sooo loud..like wayy loud and I no that something was wrong..so at the next stop light I pit in neutral and hit the gas real quick and it sounded like the normal intake sound but a lot deeper than normal..I'm mot an idiot or nothing but something jus ain't right..then trying to get it home i grannied it cuz if it tacked up past like 3 it sounded horrible and has like a huge lag in it..I pulled the codes it hit 3. P0420..p1456 and p1456 again but it had like a lil symbol next to it..please talk to le someone ! I spent 5 grand cash on her and I feel ripped off you know ?

 

1456 is evap small leak. everyone and their dog is gonna say bad gas cap. i wouldn't go much further than checking that it is screwed in 3 clicks. if you want, you can replace it, clear the codes, and cross your fingers. otherwise, the evap system must be sealed by closing the vent valve, and leak tested with a smoke machine.
0420 is cat efficiency. the secondary o2 sensor must be monitored and compared to the primary o2 sensor readings to determine whether the cat is indeed at fault or just the secondary o2 sensor, or an issue with fuel parameters.
unfortunately, both of these tests are probably beyond your scope

Fix your oil leak before beating the **** out of it. Only idiots blame the previous owner for **** they break after they already made the purchase.

 

hey bro ill be honest I'm just getting into these cars,my brother has had one for years. But as I was purchasing it I said something to them about the oil leak and they just brushed it off saying that it was just from when they changed distributor..and of course I believed them...and now I look like a dummie. Thanks for the replies tho. Of I can describe where the oil is coming from can you possibly toss some suggestions my way?

 

Clean it up and see where the leak is coming from

 

check the highest point where the oil is leaking. My old GSR had an oil leak coming from the vtec solenoid gasket.

 

Ok so the majority of the oil i can see ends up on where the engine says b18c1 ..and its coming from above it..but it just doesn't seem to be coming from the solenoid gasket..i feel like an idiot ! I have an appt. With Acura tomorrow morning..should I take it there for the oil and code 1456 or what ?

 

Since you have no clue what you're doing then yes taking it to a dealer or auto shop is your best bet.

 

I appreciate it bro..I just talked to a friend of a friend who works at the Honda dealer..he's gonna do the evap test and look at the oil for me on Monday..I will definitely write back and let yall know how it turns out and maybe it'll help someone else out! Lol
