Make sure your timing is done properly. As for getting hot, did you run the oil line correctly into the back of the head? Also, what type of setup did you use for the oil routing? Sandwhich plate? or what?

It may sound stupid, but make sure you arent leaking coolant anywhere.

i didnt use the sandwich i just ran it into the back of the block as the same as the head oil line. not leaking any fuilds, the first time we started it up it was really bad, oil pressure light keep coming on. WE flushed oil and coolant out and opened up the oil pan, there was lots i mean lots of metal shavings we cleaned it up and the pressure light went away now its just laging 1-45. in for more help :D

Metal shavings? When you drilled out the hole for the oil line, did you clean out the head?

Also, i used to have an LS/vtec, i didnt build it, but i maintained it a great deal. Correct me if im wrong, but isnt there TWO oil lines that need to be ran?

just the block to head, the metal shaving where from the block and head when first started up? im geussing it clogged up the oil line to vtec. that was why the pressure light kept coming on.

Either way, i bet you're getting hot for oil related reasons rather than coolant.

Also, redo the timing.

Also, just to note: The p72 ECU will run like **** with a pr3 head/ manifold setup. It will lag pretty bad until VTEC. Also, if you had a lot of oil shavings in the engine you should plan on rebuilding/ scrapping the engine.
