you would probably get b/tw 5 and 10 hp depending on what else you have done to your engine...and your exhaust

Id say 5, tops. Make sure you have an intake done first. And then I would do a catback, then a header. Work it in from the two extremes.

I put a DC 4-2-1 header on my GS-R, otherwise stock. I noticed a pretty slight increase. Don't expect much if you just do that by itself.

The reason I put it on was that it was cheaper than replacing my A-pipe.

I put a DC 4-1 on my GSR and I could tell a power difference in higher rpm ranges...

butt dynos butt dynos butt dynos

Don't buy one single bolt on and expect a huge difference. Your engine works together as a system, you change one part and it effects all the others.

The amount of gains you will see out of replacing one peice of the whole exhaust system, is going to be minimal.

Before you start spending your hard earned money on parts, figure out what you want to do with your car. Where do you want your powerband? How much whp do you plan to make? Forced induction? N2O? NA?

Otherwise you will find yourself at some point with a worse than average bolt on setup with no room to grow because you bought the wrong parts for what you want to achive.

Don't know about the DC but I do know if you put a turbo manifold on (with all the hardware) you should see some good gains

Like it was said earlier don't expect a huge gain. Out of the three usual boltons (I/H/E), the AEM CAI gave the most power on the dyno and the butt dyno. But as an example, I dyno'd my '99 GSR with CAI and Comptech H/E and got about 157whp. My friend with a Knights Engineering CAI only in his '99 GSR got about 154whp. I gained only 3whp on him with nearly $800+ worth of extra stuff.

That also tells me that the stock H/E already flows pretty well. There is power to be had but unless you get bigger cams and more mods and stuff, the Header and Exhaust are more for looks.

Good luck!

Every engine dynos different, and responds differently to modifications. Its not accurate at all to say your h/e only added 3whp, since your engine for all you know could dyno 10whp more than his with out modifications.

I put on a JDM 4-1 on my car with I/H, and I can tell where it starts making power at 5k

the biggest difference i saw whit my header was the look and the sound. it was one of the first mods i did, so i probably didn't gain too much. a little top end from the butt dyno. but its a good start for later mods, if that what your plan calls for.

I could hardly tell any difference with my dc jdm 4 to 1, and that was with cold air intake and exhaust. I dont think any bolt-on combination is going to give you more than 10whp, unless you are going with cams or busting a hytech or smsp. (full system,ie header, cat, catback).

when I bought my car from the dealer (used), it came with a comptech header because the stock one had a leak. I really couldn't tell the difference between that and stock, but then again, I had nothing to compare to. When I got my AEM CAI, my butt dyno definitely felt the difference; and I'm almost totally certain that what I was feeling was the I/H combo. So to answer your question, headers are part of the package; don't expect much from headers if the rest is stock.

my JG IB Modded Header gave 10whp midrange and 5-6whp peak. Stock motor.

ugh so many butt dynos

Don't put too much faith in what people say how much which mod pulls and where. I could sell someone a HP boosting valve cover and I garuntee they would feel it if they beleaved it did something

Also keep in mind

Its not I/H/E, its I/H/C/E

The cat is an often overlooked and VERY important part of the exhaust system. Think about it this way, inconsistancies in diameter are going to hurt flow. If anything you want to get slightly larger from the engine than smaller, this prevents exhaust reversion which will help performance.

The stock cat has a 2.0" inlet, and a 1.8" outlet.

If you have a VERY basic bolton system you are going from

2.0" collector, to a 1.8" outlet, to a 2.25" exhaust. I can see the problem, can you? Not to mention the stock cats flow high the cfm that a highflow or testpipe do.

218cfm compaired to 350 - 400cfm

StyleTEG has some good points. The butt dyno really doesn't say much. Not to thread jack, but if it's I/H/C/E ...then what impact does the intake manifold have? For basic airflow, is it a big deal or not? I've always wondered about that because the I/H/C/E combo covers everything except the IM.

well on a stock motor each of these will add small amount of power here and there. And the same thing goes for an intake manifold on a stock motor, but becomes more important when you have force induction or more aggressive cams.

I'm not sure if you were replying to me...but I got mine from a dyno...no butt dyno here.
