Default Header need advice...

My stock exhaust manifold has a huge crack. My question is should i weld it, or should i buy a new header.

I live in California so it would have to be carb legal.

I've been reading about "best carb header" etc. and most say go with comptech, greddy, or edelbrock... Well all three of those are discontinued leaving DC as the next best option.

So if you were me, would you weld the old rusty cracked header, or buy a dc sports header?

Both options sound garbage but i feel getting the dc is the best option for longevity. If anyone has a dc header or other carb legal header i'll buy i'm in cali.

Thanks!

I would look around for other CARB legal headers, if you don't find any, go with the DC

I think DC is the only one that hasn't been discontinued. I've tried looking online for the comptech, edelbrock, and greddy all are out of stock. So dc header over welded stock then eh?

you can find a used stock header for $30. I don't think you can weld the stock one. the dc is a waste of money imo.

I absolutely love my Edelbrock header! Made a very noticeable difference compared to the JDM type-r manifold i had.

I would get the edelbrock, however i can't find a online store that still has them in stock because they are discontinued.

My muffler guy said he could weld it, however it may only last 1 or 2 years max...

So that's the only dillemma, If the dc header is worth it i will buy one if not then i'll try finding a used stock header that's not cracked.

So is the dc header worth it?

just weld it up. buying an expensive header is a waste of money unless there is a turbo at the other end of it.

Check the classifieds/marketplace here, go in the CA for sale thread and check for headers, I'm sure you will find some edelbrocks or others that are CARB legal.

Or do what donut said and buy another factory manifold. Don't weld it.

Checked the classifieds, and been checking craigslist for the last 3 weeks. I'm pretty over it now, if welding is a bad idea i'd rather get a dc header and be done with it at this point. I know this is kind of beaten to death when people ask 4-1 vs 4-2-1, but i'm gonna ask. For my integra gsr would you go with the 4-1 or 4-2-1? People say 4-2 for mid and 4-1 for high end. Whatever, if i'm gonna spend $290 bucks on a dc header i might as well get one that is slightly better performing for my engine. Again only reason for doing this is because i live in cali so carb is a must and because all the "good carb headers" are discontinued. Thanks guys.

4-2-1 if the engine is gonna be kept fairly stock. If, at a later date, you decide to do more work, like skunk2 or similar single runner intake manifold, cams, etc, then I'd get a 4-1. The problem with the DC is that it flows almost like stock, so the difference won't be much if you decide to work on the motor. At that point, you would need something better and with a 2.5 inch collector.

For your needs now, I'd get a stock replacement honestly. It's cheap and not too much different than the DC.

Will the LS manifold fit the gsr head? Is there any flow difference between the two? I can pick up a good condition stock header for about $20 tomorrow just making sure if it will fit.

Why is 4-1 better for a more powerful setup?

I'd get an ITR header and a heat shield. It's not technically legal but nobody would know.

picked up a stock header today in really good condition for $20. ITR header sounds good but my cat converter is stock and i just bought it, so it would have been a waste. Well thanks everyone for your input

The Megan header is good. Not the best but the price is right and you get some bang for your buck
