Default head gasket?

ok so heres the deal...because of an overheating problem i replaced the radiator, radiator hoses, thermostat, head gasket, and had the head shaved so many hundredths of an inch. But there is still water leaking from my tail pipe and some times white smoke appears in the wee hours of the morning when i go to work, the car seems to sputter or misfire, and coolant is apparent in my oil catch can. So besides the long explanation what the heck i wrong wit the motor? could it be the head gasket prematurely failing or could it be the block isn't sitting straight? any help or comments are welcome with an emphasis on HELP..Thank you in advance.

Could be the block isn't flat like you mentioned, the head wasn't resurfaced correctly, bad head gasket, improperly torqued head bolts ( did you reuse the head bolts or install new ones?) cracked head, did you happed to get the head tested for leaks while it was getting resurfaced?

when the head was getting resurfaced i had it tested for leaks and technician said there were none. I also reused the head bolts with a three layer gasket and the bolts were properly torqued. Well i sent the head in today to check for levelness and any cracks.

Hopefully your block is straight. You better check the block deck for warpage when the head is off. Good luck

To measure for warpage you'll need a flat edge ruler or machine scale and some feeler gauges. Look into buying a Haynes manual for $20, it's got great picks on how to do this along with a pretty detailed engine rebuild guide.

Why would you want an ls head if your block is cracked?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are Honda head bolts not torque to yield, meaning they CANNOT be re-used!?!?! Earlier in the post he states he has reused the head bolts? Is this not wrong?

i recommend never reusing stock honda head bolts. Just get arp headstuds, if torque properly they are reuseable.

He had another thread where he was inquiring where to buy new arp head studs, so I'm hoping he did.

If your head is cracked..look in the for sale section and look for one, you can pick one up pretty cheap.

ok well ill do that but im trying to find a head locally so i dont have to drain my wallet on shipping (budget) and yes ive heard the commotion of whether or not to use the stock head bolts and some HT members said that they re used them without any problem so i decided to do so. Aniways i got the cosmetic head gasket and arp head studs combo off of horsepowerfeaks.com, pretty fast with shipping i must say. So heres where im at---> head cracked, block seems to need resurfacing, and i hastily bought the head and stud combo. Been on the internet for quite a while looking at sites for jdm motors or a head in local online classifieds. i hate having to drive a camery!!!

Is Aaron. I just rebuilt my b18b motor about 2 weeks ago. I bought a pr4 (B20)head for my motor and just put the p8r (LS) head in my storage. Do you live on kauai?

Oh cool, thats where I had my valve job done. Im not surre if I want to sell my LS head because I may need it one day. I can try and find a LS head. How much did you want it for? I also have P30 pistons on LS rods with arp bolts. Just something for your motor since LS motors have low compression pistons. OR a turbonetics turbo kit with everything, even an CHROME chipped ECU for $900
