Default Hard Shift to 2nd??

I just finished dropping the tranny off my car for the second time today. Well I had to replace the throwout bearing and tighten the flywheel up cuz a bolt came loose at the races friday. Anyway Ive noticed this since I got the car on the road. When I cruise around I have no problem shifting into 2nd. When I take it up to 7 or 8k I notice its very difficult to get into 2nd. Most of the time I have to wait for the rpms to drop to get into 2nd. If I bang 2nd hard without waitin it grinds. I hear all these people talking about synchromesh and what not... I have never seen it anywhere.. Couldnt find it today when I look throw strauss and pepboys. How much am I supposed to fill up the tranny? How many quarts of oil? and if I do find this synchromesh will it actually help this problem?? anything else I should check? I am losing like .5 or more waitin to shift to 2nd. I mean shouldnt it be easy since I have a 7.5lb flywheel? Let me know. If you kno how to help wanna chat hit me up on AIM G2 Integra 217. Thanks

Syncromesh is just a heavier weight oil I believe, I remember going out to look for it when my other tranny used to grind. I think it's equivelent to "gear oil", but I'm not sure, I only run 10w30 in my tranny for now but I don't have any grinds. As for the high rpm's problem, I'm not sure about that one...

Well the first time I put in 2 qts of 10w40. I think this time I tried some thicker like 20w50 or something. Im still having the same response from both. Am I not fillin it enough? Do I maybe need more? Or should I try this sycrhomesh"

I bought my sychromesh here http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/
Cheap but the catch about this, you will have to buy at least 6 bottles

Did you see any difference as opposed to using regular oil or tranny fluid? Did it help?

I never used any regular oil but I heard it would be fine as long as you add some addictives to it. As for tranny oil, before I used Honda MTF. When I switch to synchromesh, I've notice a slight smoothness to it going into gears especially at high RPMs.

Plus the problems your having shifting into 2nd at high RPM could be normal because it takes a bit more force to get into it UNLESS its like a hard force like trying to put it back into first when your 15+ mph

Its not that hard really but it does make it difficult and like I said if I really force it in fast to shift quickly it grinds.

NO! it should feel fairly easy, but with positive engagement. integras do that, as do pretty much all Honda manual trannies. as for first gear, i can put my car into first at 30mph if i want to. i don't do that for the sake of the tranny, but i can. and i would CERTAINLY double-clutch and rev-match if i were going to do that. trust me. i do transmissions. i know. what you have is a synchronizer ring that is dying. the tranny will still run, it will just grind more and more until you fix it. GM synchromesh modified is an alternative to make it more acceptable for a while, though. i've seen people put off new synchros for 6-18mo with that stuff. not sure if it's any good for the tranny, though, i just know it makes it shift better.

I hear ya, when mashing the gas in first, I sometimes find it a huge PITA to bang into 2nd, drive me nuts. I suppose not having traction doesn't help. Oh well, practice practice ....
