Grinds going into third...
When i am at or aorund 6,000-7,000 rpms and i shift from second to third it grinds, like for a split second. It goes into gear fine but it has that sudden vibration/grind and its fine. My one friend said it might be something called a fork for my third gear??? Is this somethin i need 2 fix right away?? My friend says his truck has been doing the same thing for about a year for third and fourth gear. It does this in fifth gear 2, it has been doing it in fifth gear ever since i had the car. Fifth is just like third it doesnt do it when im just driving normal, but when the secondaries open and i shift at high RPM's it grinds, third and fifth. But like i said it only does it when im at high RPM's. If u know or might have n e idea what it can be please tell me... TIA
Sounds like a classic Honda tranny to me....mine does the same exact thing, but only into third...its been like that for almost a year, and it still drives fine under normal circumstances. More likely than not, its your syncros. I couldnt even count how many people I know that have the same problem.
i dont know if ur car is under warrranty still or not but i highly recommend u get that fixed. thta just happened to my 01 gsr and i can tell u my tranny feels better than the day i bought it....
Sounds like it's the syncros to me. Change your tranny fluid and make sure you use Honda Tranny fluid. This may make the grinding go away TEMPORARILY, as your tranny is probably terminally ill.
i just talked 2 me buddy and he work for a dealer and he said if its the syncros it will not go into gear easy and it would grind real bad before u get it into gear, he said its prolly not syncros...

mine werent bad at all , but the problem was there.
only when i put it in 5th, it would have just a little hint of a grind, no matter what rpm.
im telling you man , when that tranny gets pulled ,ill bet anything its the syncros. almost everyone with tranny problems with those trans have the same issues. im telling you . hes talking about if the syncros are fully shot . i think mine werent that bad and just lost some teeth or something . but it was the syncro and 5th gear that were shot in mine

I sympathize with you, cause I have the EXACT same problems in 3rd and 5th gears. I'm going to change my tranny fluid and see if it helps. I guess it doesn't help to "drive it like you stole it" (I do that too on occasion

Same thing with my old honda. ginded into second. syncros bad. trust me.
My brother owns a Z24. BOoo, chevy.... slow
but yeah, he just broke his tranny. He could put the car into second gear, but when he added gas, it would grind, and kick the car out of second. (its fun going through town adding gas while holding the car into second. major MAJOR grinding. I GOT GEAR SHIFT EVERYONE! funny. got alot of bad looks...oh well) its under warrent, and the dealer just called, and said the syncros were bad. And if your shifter fork is bad, it would go into gear. I wreacked reverse gear, becasue i broke the fork in my tranny. (that was my first tranny)
good luck with your car. I wouldn't worry about it. Its when you can't use the gear anymore. But stop trying to shift so fast if your not good at it!

Ah well, just grab an si tranny.....
It's your syncros man. I had the same problem with my car when I only had like 7000 miles. A mechanic from the dealer drove my car and determined within minutes that it was the third gear syncros. He said that if the syncro is is starting to go (like some of the teeth are worn/broken) then it will just grind going into gear. But of the syncro just went, then you could not shift in third. They covered it under warranty so everything worked out.
no it will only grind if you shift at the wear point, it's probably not that bad yet. Change the fluid and see what happens.....synchros will cost you alot of $ if you aren't covered under warranty...prolly like 600-700 bucks......
I said get the Si tranny not because it's "stronger" but it's the same as the gsr but with better gearing......

yes the honda guys told me this....i replaced my master cylinder, slave cylinder and bled the f*ck out of the lines...replaced the tranny fluid with
mtf and replaced my clutch..all went away...Mine was the same problem...speed shifting into 3rd @7900-8100rpm. its gone now.

its the syncros for sure. i been havening the same problem for months no. At first it only grinds at high rpm but then it will only get worst mine started grinding at like 2 or 3 thousand rpm. so i had to get another trannie so now its shifts smooth. Its the syncros for sure man.
My GSR does the same thing. 3rd gear only.
But I have noticed if the car is not warmed up it won't grind when I shift at 6k+. And when the car is fully warmed up it grinds at 4k.
I'll get my fluid changed pretty soon, maybe that will solve it!
