Engine Swap Woes
K guys need some help, I had made a payment on a B18C1 out at a local wrecking yard to hold an engine for me, they wanted 600 bucks for it, now before everyone shoots me down and says no way could i get it for that price I must remind you, in Saskatchewan the wrecking yard workers are redneck's that only know there big blocks, and sell off imports cheap, now back to the problem, turns out the guy decides to sell it to this guy from alberta who had phoned and inquired about the engine and he got it for the same price. So the 250 I had put down I can use on another engine says toothless joe all they got is a 94 B18A1 and a B18B1 I believe, I need a motor soon because all the snow is melting now and it's almost warm enough to get my car back together. So what should I do just bite it and buy the A1 and boost it or what. How easy will the 94 engine mount up in my car ? because if it's a pain then i'll buy an older A1 i guess even though I don't want to, lil help here guys.
i'd say fack them unless they give you the other motor for half the cost of the b18c...in that case get that b18b1 and boost it... and make sure you invest in a good turbo setup and tune
I would say inspect both and go with the one that looks to be in better shape. You would think based on age that the b18b is in better shape. On the other hand, you have no idea what kind of life each motor had.At least pop the valve covers and take a look around.See if they will let you take the oil pan off and see if there is anything in the oil.(metal shavings from pistons or berrings ect)If you dont know what to look for then bring someone with you becaues I would not buy any engine from a junk yard until I did a extensive looking over of it.Hope this helps.
