Downshifting problem
I am going to try and explain this the best I can. When I am downshifting (sometimes), and I hold the clutch a little longer than usual (3-4 seconds), then downshift into whatever gear. Sometimes when I do this, especially coming from 3rd into 2nd, it will grind, wont let me into gear. I have to back off, wait a second and then try again. This has happened a bunch of times in 2nd, once in 4th and a few times in 3rd. Just bled the clutch master yesterday and changed the tranny fluid again (old stuff was only 2 weeks old) yet the problem is still there. Im running stock everything except for a Exedy Organic Clutch and Exedy 9.4lb Flywheel (keep your exedy opinions to yourself). I'm stumped. Thanks in advance for any help.
I was thinking that too, but at first it was only in 2nd gear. No miss-shifts, no grinding before. The problem seems to be getting progressively worse and ONLY when downshifting. I guess I just dont want to believe its a syncro problem (hopings its something else), just more money spent on something I hadnt planned on replacing.
clutch isn't dis-engaging all the way. all you have to do for a good down shift is blirp the throttle enough to raise engine speed to match car speed for that gear. doing this, you really dont even need to use the clutch to shift, but use it anyway, it'll give you a larger window of time to slip the shifter into gear (using the clutch after blirping.) its not bad synchros. everyone always blame things on syncros. when you think of what a synchro does, its very hard for that little brass blocking ring to pull a drive gear and input shaft to engine speed when its already turning faster than the engine, so it has to do the opposite, bring engine speed to match tire speed for that gear. thats why a little throttle blirp helps it.
all you gotta do is kinda tap the throttle enough to bring r's up. like if you're going from 3rd to second and you're going 35mph, you'll have to bring the engine up to 3500ish rpm (depending) and it'll slip right in no questions asked.

Thanks for the help. I know this works, but that still is not how it should be. It shouldnt be giving me that kind of difficulty. Im gonna play around with it some more after work today, see if I can replicate the problem on a more consistent basis.
you bled the clutch, did you check to make sure the pedal itself isn't blocked? like carpet underneath it isn't bunched up? its normal for a grind like you explain. any transmission doesn't like the downshift abuse, even though the tranny can take the abuse (for manual tranny's)

i agree, if you revmatch it should slip right in gear
