Difficult ignition switch

I just bought a 2000 Acura Integra (DC4). My problem is the key is very difficult to turn and the ignition switch has been cleaned yet the issue persists. Is there a source for a replacement or should I convert to OBD1 to eliminate the immobilizer in the switch? Engine is a B20B.

You can replace the lock cylinder (green circled) and/or the ignition switch (pink circled) without damaging the immobi unit (purple circled) - it just screws onto the end of the lock cylinder.

The lock cylinders definitely get crappy from time to time, and now all of these cars are pushing (or over) 30 years old. pop the column cover off, unscrew the ignition switch, and see if it is sticky and/or frees up the lock. Replace as needed. You'll have to use a punch and hammer to tease out the headless security screws, replacements come with the new lock cylinder. A locksmith should be able to re-key the new cylinder to match your old keys/VIN if you so desire.

I wouldn't go through all of the trouble to convert to OBD1 just to disable the immobilizer. It's easy enough to get a dummy immobi board to unsolder and replace the one in the ecu: Doctronic - smart solutions - Mobilizer-FX01

How worn is the key ? If it is original, you can use the VIN number to go to your local Acura Parts Department and get another key punched... this will be a fresh start if the cylinder and electrical switch are properly functional.

JRCivic1, the Key is highly worn so I'm sure its agrivating the issue.

I love going to get a key and the 24yo parts person has to spend 15 minutes trying to figure out how to do it. We're gettin' old.

It seems that the quality of service is definitely related to who is at the parts counter. My local Honda Dealer can make one in minutes... just give them the VIN and they punch it right out on a new key blank. No fuss... no muss. Obviously, I am only referring to '92-00 Civic style keys... analog style. It takes longer if there is an immobilizer and/or a key fob required. The 2000 Integra key will have an immobilizer pill inside the blank... and this will have to be married to the immobilizer ring and ECU.
