You didn't take the Fast Idle Thermo Valve outta the coolant loop did you?

If you've got a pre-'98 throttle body (is it '98?), then the FITV is found under the mouth of the throttle body. It's mounted to the throttle body and has two nipples on opposite sides (front/back facing) for coolant lines.

I don't know what the hell I was thinking. If the valve is there, but the coolant lines weren't routed, it still wouldn't have problems cold idling. The FITV would still be "cold" and allow extra air in. The problem with the coolant lines not being routed is that it wouldn't rev down the idle, even if the engine was warmed up.

Maybe the valve got stuck in the closed "warm" position. It's strictly a mechanical device.

You also might wanna check the IACV and idle adjustment screw.

Edit: The IACV's 2Pin connector might not have been connected. I've never tried starting a cold engine with the IACV disconnected, but on a warm engine, it'll bog pretty badly until it stabilizes the idle itself. However, if the IACV wasn't connected, it would exhibit a rough/low idle after it was warmed up....as well as a CEL (Code 14).

And, I've never tested the idle adj screw, but it would probably have to be almost to all the way closed before it would affect idle that bad.
