i was thinkin on gettin rid of my power steering on wednesday. i wanted to know peoples opinions on how it feels after u take it off. ive heard people say its hard to drive, and ive heard people say its still easy, any useful info would be appreciated.

 

no power steering and no AC

 

My car has no power steering and the only difference that i can feel is when you are going slow pulling into a parking space or something it is harder to turn other then that it seems to drive the same as a car with power steering.

 

well if ur gonna use the car for any road racing...its gonna suck...to take a power steering rack off to make it "manual" will leave u with alot more turns lock to lock...i dont think they make a manual power steering set up for integras or one that would work for the car...plus u wont get any noticable gains from it...

 

he's just talking about taking the power steering pump off not the whole rack and pinion.

I have thought about taking my p/s off but I think I would rather live with an extra 20 pounds or so than struggle yanking on the wheel every time the car is stopped or going slow, especially if you have a smaller steering wheel than stock.

 

no power steering no a/c, it's not bad at all and makes the engine bay look a hell of a lot cleaner. Quaife also make a quick ratio steering gear for the tegs.

 

If its a daily driver, its not gonna be worth it. Your not going to see lots of gain out of removing a belt and pump.

IMO i laugh at people that are trying there hardest to park there car.

 

I deleted my power stearing with a power steering delete kit about 2 months ago. I am very pleased with the result. The feedback that you get from the wheel makes it seem like you are directly connected to the car.

I must say with wide sticky tires at low to no speed it is kinda dificult to move the wheel quickly (parking and such...you will get used to it) At speed it is barely noticeable that the pump isnt even there. With my winter tires on (hard and narrow) it is a breeze to move the wheel around.

All in all a good mod. Picked up around 3-6 whp across the rev range, gained great wheel feedback and droped some weight gettin rid of the pump.

I've posted this in past threads, but here is some dyno information that individuals have contributed:

I took the R to the dyno today (brand new dynojet) to get some basic baseline numbers before I do some tuning, and before I replace my rattling cat and add SMSP's cat-to-bpipe bottleneck remover. (Thanks for helping me out Dave)
I also wanted to see the diff between the stock box and AEM, and see how much gains you actually receive from removing the power steering belt.

Mods:
AEM Intake (currently in shortram form *)
JDM DC 4-1 Header
2.5" Carsound cat (rattling and soon to be replaced)

*I used to have the AEM in cold-air form, but replaced it with stock intake. At some point I decided to put the AEM back on in short-ram to see how I liked that.

So anyway, on to the numbers:

Run 0: AEM short-ram: 160.9hp/122.5tq

Run 1: AEM short-ram: 161.2hp/122.5tq (basically no change, 0.3hp, just wanted to warm car up and see if it was consistent)

Run 2: Stock airbox: 164.9hp/121.1tq (peak 3.7hp gain, 1.4tq loss)

Run 3: Removed power steering belt: 169.5hp/123.4tq (peak 4.6hp gain, 2.3tq gain)

These were both on B18's but the principle applies universally. Between the two separate cars, there's roughly a ~6 WHP average gain.

 

on my 91 teg the power steering was removed by the previous owner and any time i turn the steering wheel at under about 15mph it is very difficult. definetly not worth the extra hp.

however, i had a 91 crx si with no power steering (from the factory) and loved it.

 

Take just the belt off for now, and drive around like that, then make your decision, that way you dont do all the work of ripping out the p/s and not like it. This way you will know before you do the work.

I dont know how it is where you guys live, but here in texas cars that were factory with power steering won't pass inspection without power steering.

 

i loved it when i removed my p/s worth it if u dont mind the pain in the azz getting use to it.

 

No PS and no AC. I am currently trying to get the ITR factory quick ratio no PS rack that came in the race base versions of the car. $273.00 is all it takes

 

it'll take some getting used to...but once u do...its not much of a problem...i have no ac also...not that big of a deal if u ask me...makes the engine bay look nicer and u pick up a few hp...not bad imo

Umm I have no PS and AC.

I love it.

When I drive my bros EP3 I always feel weird. You can feel the roads much much better. The AC thing is fine I have windows to cool me down.

I deleted the PS on my daily driver about 4 years ago. Absolutely love driving it. You have MUCH more control when hydroplaning while it rains, you can feel the limit in the twisties better, and I really like cutting my car off almost to work and coasting the rest of the way. LOL Sounds dumb but since there is no PS it is literally like I'm still driving it if I had the car in neutral. If I got another 90's Honda I'd do the same thing again.

Now no AC sucks *** in summer. Like so ******* bad that I tell my wife I want to sell the car bad. Sitting outside in the sun all day while I'm at work and then getting into it. God does it suck...
