Defouler Question
hey guys. i just installed my header and i my CEL went on =/
I still have my STOCK CAT. im gona go get it check to see which o2 sensor at amco before i install the defouler. i have some questions.
1) Can you put the defouler on the first o2 (before the cat)??? i heard it effects the air/fuel ratio, which can be really bad. is this true?
2) any of you guys experienced this problem? CEL light is on with stock cat
thanks

Either jump the connector and count the flashes or go to checker or autozone or where ever and borrow their code reader for free.

the defouler trick only works on the Second O2 sensor. Most likely the code you are throwing is a Heater failure, which you will need a new O2 sensor. The Defouler only works on a p0420 code, cat failure.
It will appear until you fix the code. Which means pull the code to see what's causing the problem and then if it's your o2, replace the o2 and then reset your ecu and the code will go away.
Is your cel on constant? Or is it just on right after startup?

the cell isnt on constant. it comes on after i turn the key to the 2nd and when i start the car.
the cell came on after i ran like 200 miles after installed my racing header. there wasnt any CEL when i had my stock header before.
people on other forums told me install the defouler on the primary o2. he said it would be fine. it would just make my car run lean but my header would compensate for tat.
while another person told me to get a new o2 and reset the ecu to fix the problem like you did. so i guess new o2 would be the best bet!!!????
1) making your car run lean makes you need a new engine very shortly after
2) replace the fukin o2 sensor, its bad
3) stop listening to retards on forums who dont know what their talking about, logic tells you that you should replace the defective part with one that isnt broken.

This was basically already stated but to clarify you only need the defouler if you eliminated your cat. The secondary O2 sensor is ONLY to tell the computer the cat is doing it's job, that is why it's AFTER the cat. It moves the sensor off the stream of exhaust and it thinks the cat is still there. O2 sensors can go bad or be ruined easily, if you have a primary O2 code you need the sensor I assume or it's not plugged in all the way after the header was installed but I wanted to clarify the theory behind the defouler.
