Sounds good to me. You better decide fast or that thing will be gone. One thing you can do to buy yourself a little time is to borrow the car and have it inspected. Then you're guaranteed to get it if you want it, because the dealer will want to sell it to you as soon as you show back up.
GS-R should last 1,000,000 mi. with a good tune and proper maintenance. Stuff about it being complex and less reliable than LS is bunk.

how is it more complex? main reason I am buying another honda is because on my DSM I cant work on it without a lift its just too much of a bitch , with a FWD honda I can do just about anyhting in my driveway , tranny takes like3 hours to swap I love that about hondas
so when you say more complex I get scurred

The VTEC system makes the head more complex, because you've got three rockers instead of two and a VTEC system that moves a pin that connects some of the rockers some of the time. If you hear it described you think there's no way it could work properly for long, but in reality it's absolutely, 100% bulletproof. From the perspective of a shadetree mechanic it doesn't wind up mattering because the head isn't any harder or easier to rebuild than a B18B head. Otherwise GS-R's and LS's are pretty similar. I'd say that for a compact car that sits rather low the GS-R is pretty easy to work on. A jack or two and a pair of jackstands is all you need to do anything. Not only that, but frequent work isn't necessary.
IMO the GS-R is a great car for DIY types. For a 1.8L, it's very responsive to mods, it has a strong block and a well designed head (capable of about 150 hp per L, flywheel, in streetable form and without FI). Honda intentionally made it easy to work on -- all parts are easy to access and to replace, and it's literally one of the most reliable cars in the world, if properly cared for. It also has a nice interior and capable, communicative handling. I know DSMs are easy to make fast, but I think in all other respects you'd find a GS-R to be a better car.

Bring it to a garage for expection like mentioned. They will tell you what you need to fix and if anythings wrong. Then go back to where its being sold, and hagle them down by telling them what needs fixing. To answer your question about reliability; its all up to you my man.. treat it right by puting in quality parts and fluids and it will most likely return the favor.
