Default DA9 help please

Well I went out to dinner with my girl friend last night for my birthday and as i was about to leave I started my car and it turned on fine but only idled for 30 seconds if that then died and when i tried to start it again it wouldnt start it would try to turn over but not start, i have power all my lights turn on i have gas just filled it up that morning and, by the way its a DA9 with a B20z swap, im assuming its my starter but i read up that it could be the timing belt so im going to look at that today after work, so i just want to see what you guys think so i can cross off some of the other possibliltys instead off jumping the gun and spend 160+ on a new starter.

Thank you in advance

If it was your starter it wouldn't crank. If it was your timing belt you would have more a bigger problem after cranking it.

Does it crank, or when you turn the key nothing happens?

It trys to turn over but wont start, and after i tried an turned the key to the off position i could hear the starter whined down or something kinda weird to me i have never had this problem with any of my cars. If its the timing belt and after trying to start you think i could have jacked up my valves?

Yea, but I doubt it's your timing belt. Check for spark. Make sure your fuel pump is priming, make sure it's getting fuel to the cylinders. Do a compression test. Check valve timing.

I just replaced my spark plugs not even a month ago, whats the easiest way to check the fuel pump? With out having to drop my gas tank i really dont want to do that.

And i just thought about it but before this happened the same day as i was driving my car i could hear a slight clicking coming from my engine bay i didnt think too much of it though i just thought that something maybe lose and was going to check it when i got home then it wouldnt start so maybe this part of information would help troubleshoot the problem.

Thanks again

If you can hear, "the starter whined down or something" my guess it the solenoid has a broken bendix spring or weak solenoid or starters pinion gear is stripped or lock pin is sheared off or worse missing teeth on flywheel.

Have someone try and start the car while you listen at the starter to see if you can hear the starter motor running, if you can hear it pull it and replace it. 94

I did I had my girlfriend try to start it while i listened to it and i can hear the starter motor running. Beforei could take anything off though i have to get it towedto either brothers house or mine cause right now its sitting in a parking lot, once i get it somewhere were i dont have to worry about it getting towed away ill take off my starter and take it to get tested or should try and open it up and check the lock pin?

What year is your DA? If it's a 92-93 you can get to the fuel pump under the seat, if it's a 91 you need to drop the tank. Just listen for the pump when you turn the key to the on position. And just because you changed your spark plugs doesn't mean it's getting spark. Rarely ever is a no spark condition because of plugs.

That could just be the sending unit under the seat. If it is under the seat you will have two access lids under there, the big on in the middle is the sending unit. The small one to the back left is the pump.

you can hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key into the on position and the check engine light should go out after that and you should hear like 3 clicks when doing that

No 2nd-gen has an access panel for the fuel-pump. All 2nd gen Integras require removal of the gas tank for fuel pump replacement.

How to tell what year of Integra you have:
Look at the 10th character of the VIN tag in the windshield.

If an L: 1990
If an M: 1991
If an N: 1992.
If a P: 1993.

There is no "O".

No. If it's a 92-93 you can get to the fuel pump under the seat, if it's a 90-91 you cannot.

Atleast that is what I have read.

'94 is the first year for the access panel under the rear seats. For '93 and earlier you need to drop the tank.

Pull the starter and replace it, once you pull the starter you can look into the hole and see if teeth are missing off the flywheel. 94
