replacing the boot is a bitch.. just replace the whole axle.. you wont regret it!! I did it about 1.5 weeks before my car got totaled.. i replaced both axles because one CV joint went bad.. its not that hard if the axles come out like they are supposed to! Good luck man!
drive it with the torn boot until it begins to click LOUDLY when turning. I drove my 91 Eagle talon for two years like this, finally replaced them when it would click with the steering wheel 1/2 way turned. The worst you can do is damage the outer joint, which wont matter because you return it for a core.
You can tell the CV joint is bad when you hear a thudding noise when you are remaining at a constant speed or slowing down.. aka braking. Its not a hard noise to miss.. I bought aftermarket axles.. they were 150 a peice. Acura Stage-1's.. they were great.. You can get a remanufactured axle for 50 - 100 bucs.. its not hard to replace if the old axle slides out like it should!
Good luck
Good luck
Okay, because right now I hear a intermittent thud/loud click noise from the front right side of my car when I accelerate or decelerate. I was guessing its probably the CV joint, I just wanted to make sure that’s what it was because I don't got much money to be swapping parts that MIGHT be my problem. Where did you get the "Acura Stage-1's" axles? Does anyone recommend any other type of axles or have a reason to favor OEM vs other brands? Thanks
