Default Clutch Problem

So this morning I go a depress my clutch to put it into gear and it feels like the clutch pedal got real loose, and it hits the floor real quick the pressure still feels fine on the clutch just it is closer to the floor now and I was wondering if its like the brakes in that when its closer to the floor meaning I need to change them. Do I need a new clutch or no?

well when I first got the car the clutch pedal is all the way at the top and you have to push it a long way to put it into gear but now it feels like the clutch pedal almost touches the floor and this morning I turned my car on fine but when i touched the clutch to the floor and tried to put it into reverse it had a grind sound and would not go into gear and when I tried to put it in first it wouldn't go in, there wasn't a grind like when I tried to put it into reverse any light on this?

I think its pretty common for reverse to grind on an old transmission if you dont line up the syncros first.

Push clutch in to start car. Car starts. Let go of clutch. In neutral, push in clutch go to first, then back to reverse. Should work every time and not grind. Hope this helps.

Also always leave your e brake on until your actually in reverse and then take the ebrake off...if the wheels are moving and you try to put it in reverse, you will grind.

That's what I suspect my trouble is, too. OP, as soon as the weather cooperates (we went from -8 F highs to 6" of snow here in MT) I'll refill my clutch fluid and let you know if it fixes my problem, unless you beat me to it. It sounds like we're having the same trouble.

ok so I was wondering if the little reservoir next to the big one in the back is the clutch fluid, and do I fill that up with brake fluid because that what it says on the cap, to fill it with DOT3 or DOT4 brake fluid

This could be a variety of things so lets start with the most common. I would consider checking for defects/leaks on the master clutch cylinder and slave cylinder. Also check the oil line that goes from the master clutch cylinder reservoir. If it's not that, then re-bleed your clutch to see if it makes any difference. Make sure there is no air bubbles. Another possibility is that the type of clutch you have might dictate the type of pressure you may feel when the clutch is engage. So I am assuming a cheap clutch from the local auto-part store will feel different from an aftermarket ones. It could also be because the clutch has worn out, develop defects overtime, or was install improperly. I would also postulate that temperate could play a roll. Since liquid is the prefer base for maintaining pressure especially in brake and clutch lines, a dramatic drop in temperature could hinder this function.

Well im done with this so I just ordered an OEM exedy clutch from THM motor sport and getting it installed, hopefully this solves the problem.... and it has been exceptionally cold these past few day so that might be a contributing factor, can't get into any gears at all reverse grinds and all the other gears are impossible to get into even when I force it....

Okay so i have a similar clutch problem then, When your driving and your down shifting is it difficult to put it in to second and first unless your speed has decelerated? and when your trying to put it in reverse it like sits in the position but doesnt lock it right? i get the same thing but i give it a little gas and the shifter pops right it, sometimes grinding before hand.

i think i need to get a new clutch.

Furthermore it sounds like my engine over revs at like 4.5k for every gear. =[ i shift at like 5k max or it seems like my engine is over working. Same problem?

Your problem is normal, you shouldn't be able to put it into first until you get to a certain speed, as for second gear idk you should be able to get into that no matter what speed but first you definitely should be able to get into it without slowing down. If you can't get into second gear just put it in neutral let go of the clutch, then depress the clutch again then put it into gear, that should solve your problem, happens to me all the time
