Default Clutch issues

I'm having trouble w/ my 99 gsr... the clutch doesnt engage until the pedal is depressed about 3/4 the way. When it's cold its sometimes difficult to get it into gear. There is absolutly no slipping though, plenty of grip. Does it need adjusting or could it be a more serious problem? Any help would be much appreciated!

Do you mean disengage?

Has this been a gradually increasing problem or all of a sudden.

You could play with your pedal end play. Also, you may have lost a spring in your clutch disk...but usually the problem is a lot worse.

http://importnut.net/clutchcomparo.htm Check the section on OEM clutches.

It may have been very slowly happening. There also tends to have a slight sqeak when the pedal pressed and depressed, only when its up to temp. If it were a lost spring or a pressure plate malfuntion wouldnt there be slippage?

Actually, if you looked at the picture of the broken spring on my site, you would see that it's the "damper" spring.

What ends up happening with that kind of failure, is that the spring lodges itself between the disk and pressure plate. Long story short, the clutch ends up being engaged no matter what you do with the pedal.

As I'm thinking about it, I think your problem is in the clutch slave or master cylinder. It could just be air in the line but it may be a problem with one or the other. The squeak that you hear is probably nothing more than the piston in the slave cylinder squeaking against the clutch release arm. A dab of grease will cure that.

Any simple way to make sure the cylinders are functioning properly?
