chip in windshield
Any suggestion on what can repair a chip from a rock without bringing the car in or having somebody come to repair it? I got a nice little rock chip drivin back from the beach today...dam truck in front of me
i have a chip on my windsheild too but i dont let it bother me. and i have had it since one week after i bought the car. the only good thing is that it has not spread at all.

Permatex makes a kit, they sell it at Pep Boys for $3-$5.00.
It's called "windshield bullet" or something like that. It's a hypodermic needle with clear epoxy in it. You inject it under the windshield coating into the chip or crack. I've been meaning to try it, I have some chips as well. I've heard it works really well.

You stick an adhesive disk on the windshield, use the syringe to suck the air out of the crack, then mix the epoxy & inject it. Let it cure overnight, then peel the stuff off & cut it smooth with a razor.
I had this chip for several years before I decided to do this. Small chip on the outside, but a 'cone-shaped' fracture going in thru the glass. It made it a lot better, but it's not invisible. I hear it works better if you don't wait so long before doing it. A lot of the glass-repair places use the same technique.
