Lately there has been a rattling sound in my car right when i hit around the 3000 rpm range. i went yeterday to get my whole exhaust tightend because i thought that was what it was making the rattling sound. i got it tightend and still kept on making that sound. so then i thought it was my cat..... i went downthere and for the hell of it i cleared my cat....u know all the **** that comes inside the cat. so now i have sort off like a straight pipe.... but it is still making that rattling noise...Any ideas of what it can be???
what sort of exhaust do you have? i had a custom pipe made, and the idiot that made it cut something funny and ended up with a 1" long piece of pipe stuck inside the exhaust! i was watching the whole thing (except the welding), but i didn't notice it until i started it up and there was a crazy rattling. so he had to cut it back open and drop the piece out, and after he put it back together, he forgot to put back one of the rubber hangers, so it had to be lifted again. talk about incompetent.
good thing i was watching the whole thing so i could get it done my way.

yea i also have a 2 1/4 custom pipe. i doubt that i have a piece of pipe stuck in there because i been having the exhaust for over a year now and the rattling noise just started like 2 weeks ago..... like i said i thought it was my cat... but my cat is been cleared out so it cant be the cat.....Maybe its the heat sheild like DELINQUENT said.....i took off the bottom part of the heat shield...maybe its the top part of the shield........ Thanks guys
oh yeah, just tighten the bolts on the heat sheild. i've heard a couple horror stories about starting fires without it. same for the bottom one. helps keep you from starting a fire if you sit your car on the grass or something.
