Default Cam installtion gone wrong?

So i started the cam swap thursday night..Everything went smoothly, cam swap took myself only 40 mins...being i've done this about 4 times in the past month i've kindof mastered it..didn't have a chance to set the timing so screw i went home, came back to finish it friday, now thursday, friday and saturday i spent at least 6 hours on the timing..i never thought in a 100 years it'd take me this long, i was in a rush forgot to mark my marks on my cams so i can just slap the belt back on, thats how i've done it, and i've had no problems.. fastfoward till today, my buddy devin as all of you know one of the two to actually help me and know my car just as well as I and Darren... Came over we set the timing in a matter of minutes, cranked the car over...a slow spin..as if it has no compression..wtf?? try it again...no crank and a loud *** backfire..we take the head off, check the cams, everything's lined up start checking valves..there's a small...small GAP between the first lopes on the exhaust side, no gaps at all on the intake..so devin breaks the words to me that i have 4 bent exhaust valves..Who am i to question a man who's built 6+ h22's and knows his stuff i'm not one..i just find it very hard to believe that i've bent valves maybe i'm stupid or hardheaded, but it spins over as if the cams still aren't in the right place and i trust devin's judgement a 100% this guy has helped me in more tight binds then i could count..so fastward till later today, darren hits me up, asked how me and devin goes.. Darren says i dont think its bent valves, i still think its the way your cams are set...i'll have ot looked at he says..

So i got two really smart guys, both judgement i trust with my own life, however one says bent valves the other says no..i guess when darren comes to look at it later this week..i'll allow him to tinker with it for alittle if not, i'm pulling the head, grabbing a new set of valves, and just goin to go all out on the head, with it..i'll go ahead and clean the block while i'm at it..in any case i'm writing this post to ask some opinions on what this problem is..what could cause this i've had this problem before when i first got the car..darren was the only one i knew back then and he came over and set my timing and that was the problems..i do see the four exhaust valves that devin said were bent sitting LOWER a Small..SMALL i'm taking SMALL seat lower then the rest...i mean like i said i'm stuck i dont really have the money to spend on a new set of a valves but if they both seem to point me in the direction of new valves what can i get..any cause opinions.. again i'll cliff note it
Cliffs: Car spings freely , like no compression, Timing is set on the mark, Cam gears are at 0/0 as it stands now, everything is bolted and ran to specs...i've taken the cams out 3 days in the past two days and repeated everything step by step..word for word.. spec for spec...

Also had a reply from a locate board.. does anyone agree this could be my problem....and i quote

"Hey type r i had the same problem when I installed crower stage ones in my car. Would backfire and not crank. What it was is that i went to a bigger cam, and my valves were adjusted too tight, thus not letting valves seat all the way. I had no compression, and simply did valve adjustment for new cams. The skunk 2 stage 2 cams are a big jump. i just noticed you said nothing of new valve adjustment or clearance."

and yes it could be that you need to do a valve adjustment.

at first i thought my timing was off, it wasn't..so i went ahead and pulled everthing off and set my timing the right way, pully off using the crank gear and the mark on the block..well timing is set right but it spins too freely and before it does a full rotation of the motor it backfires.

Did you adjust the valve lash? Anytime you pull your cams and especially if you install more aggressive cams, you are supposed to loosen the valve adjustment so that when you install, there is no binding issues. Then after the cams are installed, you readjust the valve lash to the specs given by the cam manufacturer.

Is this what you guys did?

Also, you are aligning the WHITE mark on the crank pulley with the lower cover pointer while your cams have the up marks pointing up?

Go ahead and check your plug wire order also.

Compression tested, 0, adjusted to skunk's specs, 7 on intake, 8 on exhaust, recompression tested, nothing, car still spins freely as if no compression, replaced adjustable cam gears, with stock ones to make sure timing is on, it seems on perfectly..any idea guys????

Gotta do a leak down test so you can see if your valves are bent. Its the easiest way to check without removing the head.

Did you use the white mark (correct for TDC) or the red mark (16 deg BTDC) to find TDC?
