Default B18b head on b16a2 block... NEED HELP

I have just recently purchased a 1990 integra and the seller put in a b16a2 block with a b18b head, soon to find out there is oil leaking from the headgasket. So i take the head off and the head gasket seems fine. Im starting to think that maybe a b18 head wont work on a b16 block... please help?

No, a non Vtec B18 head won't work on a B16 or any B series Vtec block.

Only combo that works is a B16 head or any B series Vtec head on a B18 or B20 non Vtec block (LSVTEC). (B20VTEC)

Could that also be the reason its leaking oil?

Yes, VTEC "B" series engine blocks have an oil passage near the right rear corner of the block that feeds the VTEC circuit... a non-VTEC cylinder head, as well as the matching head gasket, does not cover this oil feed passage. Thus, you have a significant oil leak when the engine is running. Other than somehow plugging the oil feed passage in the block before installing the cylinder head... I do not know how to make a non-VTEC head work on a VTEC block. Even if you sealed this passage off... the next problem is going to be timing belt choice. The B16A belt may fit using a non-VTEC oil pump, but I have never tried it.

This combination is just a bad idea. I suggest you wrangle up either a VTEC head OR a non-VTEC short block and make a proper complete engine out of half of what you got.
