Default anyone know what this spring is?

I took my gsr tranny out of the box today to look over it cause my mounts got in today and i wanted to see how the hydro conversion bolts up, upon looking it over, i see this thing kind of hanging out right in the hole where the intermediate shaft goes, im not sure where its suppose to go. is it maybe part of the oil seal for the shaft and i need to replace it? i hope its not serious as this thing is suppose to go in this weekend, if anyone could chime in i would appreciate it, for reference its a little bigger then an inch in diameter

The pic is pretty blurry so it's hard to be certain but it looks like it came out of the seal. I think if you look at the other side it should have the same exact seal and you should be able to tell where it goes. If in doubt, go to an autoparts store and ask them if you can look at a seal, take your spring with you and make sure it matches and look at how it fits in the seal and you should be good to go.

Is it a metal spring or a rubber seal? If it metal spring( or ring) then it may have come off of the intermediate shaft that was in the tranny before if it was a used tranny. The spring is used to hold the shaft inside the tranny. Look on your axles to see if the ring or spring matches.

If it is a rubber seal then it is used to seal the shaft in the tranny. Nothing big but you do want to get new ones before you put the tranny back to gether.

Hope this helps.

its a metal spring, i dont know what it is, i just dont want to install the tranny and then find out it was vital, i think the usual one that holds the shaft into the tranny is a clip isnt it?

What year is your tranny? I have my tranny out right now too and i will go see if i can see anything thats looks the same. I also have the acura dealer manual for the 94 to 2001 gsr tranny and car. I can check that too.

there is a tool to do it, otherwise use a screwdriver and hammer very very carefully. If you scratch it, it can leak

I have the manual here in front of me. If there is a spring in the oil seal, the book does no show it and I cant remeber if there was one in there the last time I looked at one. To remove it is alittle hard but just take a screwdriver and kind of pri up on it from the inside of the seal.. The book shows the whole tranny being apart and knocking it out from the inside of the tranny.

The book does not give me a part number but i am sure if you take the seal to the dealership you can get the right one.

BlackLudeSi is right. The first one that i did, I did that too. It LEAKED. Be carefull.

OK the seal has a lip on the inside, the spring thing should be inside that lip. You shouldn't have to peel it out to see it.

Its an axle seal spring. Just get a new seal. Sometimes even when you put the spring back it will still leak.
