Default is amsoil worth it?

i heard amsoil can go 20k till your next oil change, but its like $15 a quart. does this stuff really add up? or should i stay mobil1? i searched but found no comarison in these two oils. and since i dont use valvoline, or castrol so the oil comparisons with these two vs. mobil1 proved useless to me. i need to know about amsoil

Well, amsoil did some independant tests and found amsoil to be better than mobil 1, royal purple, redline, and all the other synthetics.

I use it. It's 5 a quart on http://www.amsoil.com. Can I go 20k miles? Well, I guess I could but I change it at 7k. I just use it because of the test results. Supposed to be so much better at preventing wear on the engine..

Would I buy it again? Yeah..

Would I recommend it if you are not a freak like me? No..

the question is, can your filter last that long without a change? especially when the sump is relatively small. many european cars have no problems going for 10-15k miles without an oil change. a 10 qt sump helps out alot.

Well, if you use a amsoil filter, they recommend changing it every 12,500 miles or 6 months.

There are 2 different kinds of amsoil ....there is a 7500 and the 20K the 7500 is only like $5/qt

i use the stuff that is 5/qt. I still change it like every 4-5 though only cuz it seems to get dark quick

My bro uses amsoil and he likes it alot. When we first bought it we had a box of it in our basement and our stupid dog got into it and chewed up some of the bottles and left oil stains on our carpet so he likes it to. When I get my knew motor I am gonna us it to.

you know.. the best oil doens't allow you to drive further.. it just protects the engine better.

I've been a Motul user for the past few years and they make excellent oils.

I used to use it back when i cared and burned less oil. I just couldn't hack paying that much per quart when I am burning it off at a rate of ~1qt./1000miles.

I have 294K miles and counting using Castrol GTX. I change every 3-5K miles with a Puralator Pure One filter. Even with all these miles, I pull the valve cover and its clean as a whistle inside. The car runs great and doesn't burn oil--well, less than half a quart in 5K miles.

But now I've added a Full-Race kit to my track/daily driver car. I've not been on track yet and I'm a little concerned about the extra heat issues.

I guess you guys are happy with what you are using.

But I can guarantee you that if you do switch to Amsoil ASL 5w30 you will notice a verry big difference.

But thats just my oppinion.

One function of the oil is to get rid of dirt inside the engine. the oil viscosity properties could be made to last that mileage, but after so much driving dirt and crap starts to accumulate in the oil. If you keep running the same oil for so long, the dirt will eventually get into the internals, grind out the engine, no matter how slick the oil still is.

I used the mobil 1 15K 5w30 last time. Has only about 7000 miles on it.

the function of the oil is to lubricate your internal components. the way the oil is made and the ammount of aditives, helps the oil last for so long.

every oil brakes down at one point, but thats going to be the difference in oils. some brake down at a lower temperature then other, and that will allow them to last longer.
