Default AC freon question

1991 Acura Integra b18a1

Guy at advance told me my car takes 34 ounces of freon. I have put two cans of 12 ounces each into my car already. AC works good and all. My question is, should I put just about one more can of freon to complete the 34 ounces and have my AC a bit colder? Or should I leave it alone? I just don't want to blow the compressor or overcharge it.

Thanks.

If you overcharge it the pressure sensor should stop it from coming on. If you can live with how cold it is now I wouldn't bother trying to get it exact just put about 3/4 of a can in and you should be ok.

I assume the system was converted from R-12 to R-134a, since you're able to get the freon locally without any issues. Or, if you're not the first owner, you're sure that there was no 'drop in replacement' for R-12.

Keep in mind, converted systems don't use the same amount of freon as stock systems. You really need a set of pressure gauges to judge how much freon you need.

Very good reading here.

Damn! This is awesome! Car was converted to R-134a. AC is cool enough for now. I will be taking it to a buddy's shop. Thanks!

34oz is the R12 refrigerant charge, a retrofitted system will take between 80%-90% of R134a refrigerant, as mentioned a set of A/C gauges is needed to be right on the button, however if your getting below 45*F out of your vents, do not do anything, if you overcharge the vent temp. will actually go up along with head pressure and that can damage things. 94
