96-2000 integras
so.... I got my car totalled last week in an accident that's not my fault... (got the call from the insurance company today to make it official) My car was a 96 sentra... I'm looking at a (relatively) fat check from the other guy's insurance company as compensation.
I like the way integras look so I'm just doing some research on em in case I decide to buy one used...
1: How much do GS/GSRs run for with about ~50K miles on it? I live in the baltimore area if that affects it.
2: My brother was saying that having to change the timing belt every 60-80K miles gets annoying and expensive... any other maintainence issues that I have to be wary of?
3: How significant is the engine difference between the GS and GSR? And does the vtec hurt the engine reliability in any way? Also is the cost difference big enough for me to just stick with the GS and (if I wanted to) put some money into some small tweaking?
I'm probably looking at the 4-door model just cause I like the utility of 4-door cars, though I'm still way too early in the search to make any sort of definites.

1. I paid 11,500 for mine (97 2 dr GSR) with 46k miles on it. Fully loaded, perfect condition.
2. Not really, just take care of it.
3. GS-R has a B18C (170 hp, VTEC) and the GS has a B18B (140 hp, no VTEC). Same reliability that you can expect from honda except it has more power. Go with the GSR, you will be happy you did after you have it.

dont forget to check with your INS. co. about how much it will cost a month to insure a GS-R... $$$
also Honda recommends timing belt at 105,000, but its good to get it before 90,000!
I think your brother is thinking of DSM's(mitsubishi)

1) Not sure how much GS's run but GS-R's with about 50k miles will run you anywhere from $11k-$15k. I'm assuming this is a '99 and up year model. Pricing could differ in your area than where I'm from (So Cal.) but I have noticed prices on 4dr GS-R's with low mileage are pretty high no matter where you are. That's also assuming you can find one at all in a color other than green.
2) Changing the timing belt every 60k-80k miles isn't really that bad at all. For the average person that is every 4 years or more. Let's just say parts on Honda cars are dirt cheap after mucking with euro cars.
3) The price difference isn't that dramatic between the GS and GSR's when both are in pristine condition. The biggest problem is that GSR's are harder to locate than GS's especially in 4dr models. There is no sacrifice in reliability between the 2 models as far as I know. Maybe just the fact the GSR might be more likely to be stolen.
If you are looking for a 4dr GSR and want one with decent miles I would say patience is the key. It may take a while for you to come across one that isn't completely trashed. You can't go wrong with either car but I think you'll be happier with a 4dr. They are definitely more practical and roomier. Good luck.

1. My '99 GS-R was $13,200 with ~72k miles
2. As far as I know the timing belt shouldn't need to be changed until around 100k miles....??
3. GS-R is definitly worth it, and it's just as reliable....if you're looking to really build the car then it's up to you, but if you just want a nice, quick, stock car, the GS-R has enough go for the money.

I got a '97 gsr wit 52k miles on it for about 12,500. And I don't kno who it was...but they're damn straight on the "it's hard to find it in any color other than green"
mine's green. its aight..it grows on u

LOL! Green isn't bad (last GSR was green)...just the combination of the tan interior that I don't like.

1. You can get a low mile GSR from anywhere from 7k to 10k
2. Changing a timing belt every 90k is far from "annoying". thats like every 4-5 years. It isnt too hard either.
3. Get a GSR. I have an LS motor and its great for daily driving, but acceleration after 2nd gear just sucks.
4. Get a 2 door. with the rear seats folded down you have TONS of cargo space in the back. Today I put a big office chair, a meat smoker, a couple pots and boxes in the back. Plus 2 doors look way better.
