I did this "mod" a month or so back and it totally melted my passenger side bulb plug. Anyone seen this? I swapped back in the 9006 and they seem to be working ok with my mangled plug. Anybody have a similar problem?

You must have done something wrong. Were you using stock wattage 9005 (60W)? I saw huge amounts of light increase when I did the switch, and I drove it like that for over a year and a half w/o issue.

that sucks you had a problem with it bro... i ran the 9005 w/ syvania cb's for more than a year as well w/o problems. much approved over stock for sure. like patrick said, were you running bulbs that were more than 65w? that might have been why you fried the wiring. dunno

Barely brighter, if any, than regular clear 9006's. So in other words, totally not worth the money.

i swear to christ i must be like the only person here that hates that conversion.
my headlights are perfectly free of condensation, water, etc.
i burned 3 silverstars and 2 cool blues in 2 years with this conversion.
i have been running regular 9006 sylvanias for the last year with no problems.
if you drive a lot at night these will fail. 9005's are not made for continous running, period.

I was running 100 watt bulbs, but posted a question about if this was too high of a wattage and everybody said no. So chop this one up to misinformation i guess. Who cares, HId's on the way....
i'm running 9005 silverstars
.. there is a SLIGHT glare as the tip of the bulb is not covered so that shines past the blocking plate behind the projector lens.. it's not bad tho. no one flashes me.. and it really helps to see street signs and the output is much much better. on a unlit road it seems like i have spot lights almost

I'm not surprised the 9005's running in the low beam are burning out much more quickly. Indeed, they shouldn't last as long when continuously burning at night.
They are indeed much better than the 9006 Silverstar. The Silverstars are rated at the same brightness as standard 9006's. They have a bluer white light and a beam pattern that is more even. So the "extra" brightness is really just a bluer white color temp and a nicer, more even light across the road. That's what the +30 is about, a perceived increase in brightness.
Sylvania's European version of the Silverstar, sold under their Osram label, is actually brighter than the USA version. It doesn't have the blue coloring on the glass, so the light isn't the same shade of blue/white. But without having to pass through the blue glass, the light is brighter.
A high/low beam arrangement of the standard 9005/9006 puts out 1000 lumens per headling on lows and 2700 lumens on high. Using the 9005/9005 will produce 1700 on low and 3400 on high. No way an Integra using Silverstar 9006's and 9005's can come close to being as bright as using standard $7 Walmart 9005's with the conversion. Or better yet, if you can find $9-$10 Wagner BriteLite 9005's then you'll have a higher temp / whiter light.
I'm surprised by the reports of melted plastic. The 9005 is only 10 watts higher than the 9006 and since it works fine in your high beams with the same connectors, it should work fine in your low beams. This is well under the illegal 85 watt 9006 bulbs, which do melt the plastic in many cars.
[Oh, just saw that he used 100w bulbs ... that was a guaranteed meltdown!]

im running the 9005 conversion, but i didnt feel to secure using the dremel method on the 9006 harness, so i just went to autozone and bought 2 9005 harnesses. Clean and simple. Have had it for a few months now, no problems at all.

Same here. replaced 1 bulb after a year and a half. The other is going on 2 years now.
