Default 1990 DB1 Project

So yesterday some friends and I picked this '90 LS sedan up. My first Acura after having several Hondas. This is going to, at least for the time being, be considered mine and David's project DB1. David is my best friend btw.

Though this car is currently in my name, after some work I'll be transferring the title to David so he can finally have the DB he always wanted. This will be his second 2G Integra. He had a black hatch that was totaled several years ago and he's pined for a sedan since then.

As you'll see, she definitely needs quite a bit of love.

Here's the first photos from the Craigslist ad. "$350 OBO". We got it for $250.

It's an auto with a "bad" transmission (haven't run it yet; we'll see how things turn out). The purchase also included an extra automatic transmission plus a set of manual pedals and a manual tranny mount.

I'm not much into Integras or older Hondas so this is all very new to me. Plus all my previous cars came with no assembly required.

204,000 miles. It's got a clean title too.

Here's a rough idea of the current state of things.

Here's what we have going on under the hood...

Attachment 541220

Sorry for the shitty BlackBerry pics. Let me know if you need anymore shitty BlackBerry pics or perhaps even for me to get off my *** and take photos with a for real camera.

Btw, if anyone knows where anything is (cheap but good = best, of course) I'd REALLY appreciate the help! I'm located in the South Puget Sound area in WA state.

And here's the running total cost.

TOTAL: $1,385.68*

* This includes getting the car home from two hours away, towing, gas, first tank of gas to be able to test drive, etc. It does NOT include all tax, but only some tax since only some items were taxed and it makes it a bit difficult to figure it out for what was taxed. So the total is a bit inflated because of things that might not be actual parts or labor.

If you haven't already, I'd check out g2ic.com for the missing parts and whatnots. Lots of good info specifically for second-gens on there.

Good luck with the build.

Besides the awesome news about the distributor, Jeff also has loaned DJ and I a factory service manual, which is good since today I called Acura and they told me they didn't have any manuals that were so old.

Plus Jeff is willing to let us use his '91 DA as a reference.

Other good news is I vacuumed up the carpet and see that it's not really so bad at all. It's definitely not so bad that it needs to be ripped out. No holes, tears or sticky or hard spills. It's a bit stained, but not nearly as bad as I expected.

Also picked up a key for the Integra, so now we can lock it up.

Jeff, thanks again for stopping by. It was a lot of fun. Thanks again for the distributor and the manual! Feel free to message me whenever.

Got the starter and radiator in tonight. Unfortunately I was distracted on the phone long distance.

Glad to see things coming together though.

Also picked up radiator hoses, a thermostat and gasket but left them at work. Oops.

"Eventual car". It gets to stay in my name for now to make sure frivolous things such as painted valve covers don't happen.

Goals for this car:
- Make it run.
- Make it generally road worthy.
- Move it to another location.
- Work out any minor runability issues.
- Make it safe (new shocks, seatbelts, tires).
- Transfer the title.
- Make it legal (tabs, insurance).
- Make it prettier.

Working on the "make it run" part still. I want it out of here in the next four days tops.

We have power to the dash. Just got it.

The column needs to be wired the rest of the way in still. Hoses are in, front bumper is on, marker lights are on, thermostat and water outlet are on.

Ran all over the place today and got a lot of parts for the car. I'll try to take some photos here soon. It's pretty dark so I'm not so sure about photos tonight.

Valve cover gasket and throttle body gasket are about to go on.

Much of today was running around to get stuff and getting the columns swapped onto each other.

Headlights are on now too. The car finally has a face. Still need a hood, but we might just drive to the yard that has it and mount it directly on the car in the future if we can. That or use a truck to pick it up. My DD Accord just was not going to have any part of bringing an Integra hood home today.

Looks like we'll be keeping this set of JDM one piece headlights and give the other, cleaner set that David already has in storage to Jeff like we promised. David had wanted the US headlights, but once he put these ones on the car for a test fit he decided they didn't look nearly as bad as he first imagined they would.

These headlights, upon closer inspection, will need to be disassembled and cleaned before we're really happy with them.

Got it to turn over. Still waiting on the distributor since Jeff's friend has been flaking (it's at his friend's shop).

Oh, and the car managed to turn over because Eran swung by the house while we were messing with the car. I mentioned before that Eran is pretty good with electronics and wiring. David had been having trouble with the steering column.

So Eran gets in and pulls some stuff out since it's some alarm wiring that needed to go. Messed around with some other stuff and all of a sudden they can turn it over.

Getting close to getting it to run.

Thanks, cerve.

So far what's gone on today is a handful of little purchases, Jeff is over helping out and we're trying to get the car to actually fire up.

Not all going according to plan, but still some good stuff too.

The windows all work. The driver rear sticks a bit, but not too bad. We can manage to get it up (lol).

David got electrocuted pretty decent. Recovering right now. Bitch beer helps out apparently.

Jeff got a shot in the face. Not that any of us are really surprised.

And now we're all laying on my bed getting butthurt over what I'm saying about everyone. Hahaha.

Oh, but yeah, figured out we had a slight grounding issue. As in no ground on the valve cover.

I'm sure most people here have overlooked the easiest **** out there though. I'll continue to laugh at us all anyway.

Distributor was wrong. Looks like OBD1 or OBD2 GSR with OBD0 plugs on it.

Tomorrow we go to look for a new one unless someone has one locally.

Mostly interested in getting it running.

My friend has mentioned painting it, but I honestly think the Honey Beige Metallic looks awesome and could look great modified. Plus it's not a color that will blend into the background of modified Hondas as much as some of the other stuff.

He has also mentioned interest in putting a new coat of clear on the stock paint and matching the new fenders, bumper and hood.

He has some wheels set aside that I think might end up looking good on it too. We'll see how things go.

We definitely need shocks on the car and I might have found a nice deal on some springs to drop it a little bit (it's super high next to my Civic in the garage right now). He has plans for the car, but the immediate plan is to get it running and such.
