2000 Honda civic
when air conditioning is turned on engine seems to loose horse power and it makes a chirping noise under hood and inside cabin near glove box

 

Does the A/C work well? Does the condenser fan run? If so, tighten or replace the A/C belt.

 

I believe I had this same problem a few months back, and for me it was the A/C compressor was locked up. It started as a small noise at first, kind of sounded like a piece of paper was being hit by the fan or something, and eventually it got to be a horrible sound and when I turned on the AC you could seriously feel it throttle down the engine really bad. Finally I bought a new compressor myself and had it installed and then the problem went completely away.

 

It could very well be the belt. Either adjust the tensioner or replace the belt.

 

the a/c is not as cold as it used to be...already replaced the compressor about a year ago. I had the belt looked at while fixing another problem and the mechanic said it was fine
