I just got an 05 VP last week and this was one of the FIRST things I was planning on doing to it. I got a cluster from an 04 EX (auto) (thanks to Tomsecks here on HT) and MOST everything is working. The entire cluster works, except when I cut on the left blinker the check engine light blinks

Does anyone know which wire could be crossed? Also, I am having the same issue with the radio not working now that the cluster is in. I have checked all the fuses under the steering wheel and they all look good. I saw that a lot of people were having issues with this, but didn't see a resolution. Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: I also found this video http://videos.streetfire.net/video/0...-to_110751.htm it helped me get those pins out.

Did you have to do the repin or did it plug right in?

I had to re-pin it. I tried doing the plug-n-play but it did nothing, and now the entire cluster is working perfectly except the left turn signal and the radio.

Update: The radio issue ended up being a 10a fuse under the hood. There really should be a notice on these write ups to disconnect the battery before attempting this for us dumb asses who didn't think of that.

I am about to go check my wiring again for the check engine issue (after I disconnect the batter ), and I will get back to yall on that. What did everyone who did this do about the milage? My car has 36,xxx miles and the ODO from the new cluster reads 85,xxx.. I noticed there are not a lot of topics on roll back because of the legal issues, but I (like most people) just want my car to display the correct millage. I opened up my old gauge cluster and it doesn't look easy to remove the digital ODO, and I'm not sure if it would even fit in the new one. Any insight on this would be awesome!

EDIT: Found the issue with my turn signal. Turned out to be less of an problem with my wiring skills and more to do with my color blindness. I crossed Green/Orange and Green/Red, alls fixed now though and I freakin love it!

has anyone attempt the hybrid swap? still looking up info on it, but I'm going to make an attempt if anyone can give a short for my i.e. plug diagrams, just want to clear up that at the beginning of this thread the diagram applies to all models, lx ex dx and such, i will be swapping it into an 02 lx sedan, I hope it will just be repin and plug in... but any help would be appreciated..

i just got a 01 civic dx, the cluster doesn't have the tach.

would this work with my car or even just using the same year cluster but the EX model?

it's really annoying not having a tach and i don't really want an aftermarket one.

thanks

Just arrived today. :D
Got to wait for another 14,000 km's tho, the new cluster has 158,000 on it where as my car just rolled over 144,000. wish honda kept the mileage stored in the ecu and not the cluster, oh well, it'll be worth the wait.
And before anyone says have the milage changed, i cant, Honda wants $199 to reflash the cluster and they are the only ones around here that will do it. for the sake of $200 i'll wait the 8 months it'll take me to tack that on. March is a crappy month anyway so i'll do it then

Old and busted

i couldnt wait, lol

So i took a day off yesturday and decided to install my new cluster.

Anyway The Old cluster, basic 2001 civic dx crappy cluster, the New Cluster was from a 2004 Civic LX Sedan

So heres the old, Note how shitty it looks, lol

De-pinning was EASY, i used a paper clip, took no more than 10 minutes to have all the wires out of the 2 plugs. Yellow/black wire from the fuel sending unit needed to be lengthened to reach the blue plug, thats the thick yellow wire you see on the left.

And here it is all Finished, all wires are in there new home. In case anyone is wondering, the yellow wire going to the blue is the fuel wire like mentioned before, And the other yellow wire thats leaving the green and going back into the dash is for my ABS light, My car doesnt have ABS, however the SI & LX's did and so did their clusters, So even though i have the wire for ABS (blue/red) my abs light would still come on in the new cluster, so what i did was pop in a t-splice in the blue/red wire and run that yellow wire through the case where i grounded it to the chassis, and the light went out. happy me.

And 2 hours after i started, here is the finished result, IMO it was money, time and effort well spent.

And a side Note The Green/black wire in the blue plug is not required, not sure what it5 does but if you dont have it seriously do not worry about it. And the red/white wire in the green plug just take that rool it up and tape it with electric tape, and tuck it away to the side, you dont need that either. And if your in canada like me, you will notice you have 2 pink wires, the one thats in your green plug is for the Washer fluid warning light(you will find alot of american forums and DIY's will stat the wire should be red/white as it shows on many wiring charts, but its not, its pink in all canadian dx's, also the DRL's are controlled by the white/blue wire in slot 13 in your green plug, that wire doesnt move, leave it where it is. And if after you plut the cluster in and you now have a ABS light on in the new cluster, dont do what many other did and take the cluster apart to put tape over it, its alot easier and safer to run a bit of wire from the abs wire and attach it to the chassis as a groud, the light will remain off.

So if you followed the directions, and put the wires in the right place, and DISCONNECTED your neg batter line before you started then you will not have any issues with this job. very easy if you follow the steps and not cut corners. I didnt blow any fuses and everything works exactly as it did before i started.

My new cluster has 14,000 km's more than the old, But i was able to get a Letter from the Honda Dealer here stating i changed the cluster and noted the difference in the km's.

Hello,

I changed the cluster of my civic ex 2001 to 2005, I changed every cable following the DYI steps everything works awesome but now transmission section in the cluster is always showing Neutral red light the unique manner to get off the light in the spedo is if i turn on the lights of the car...

Anyone knows how to solve this problem, here is the picture showing the neutral red light.
