its a light coat ( i just you black paint) that you put over the primer. so when you sand the primer it lets you know that it is completely smooth instead of having the orange peel. you don't have to use it i suppose but I'm just **** when it comes to paint and body work,

ohh ok. well, the bumper is getting repainted. and the hood was just a learning platform. i think the guy's painting it are going to re-sand it and make it smoother than what it is. there are flaws in it now. not sure if they do a guide coat though. i can ask though.... hey scott, you guys doing a guide coat?

alright, here are some updates. tonite, my car got primered, thanks to scott and his girlfriend michelle! the biggest problem area was the front right fender. when we first put it on the car, I thought it looked ok, turns out, under all that paint, it was pitted very badly. no good at all. that is why it seems like there is alot of putty on it. there really isn't, its just a skim coat that was sanded down ALOT! it still needs a little work but for now, it's ok. first here are some pics of right before the primering began...

and here are the pics of what it looks like now. some are in between primer coats, some are of the finished products. you can kind of see the difference in the body lines of before and after. it looks alot different now, well, to me anyway.
here's the hatch

that big spot of cancer is gone. with a piece of gutter riveted in place. you might think thats shitty, but hey, you won't be able to see it when the reflector is on there.

here's the troublesome fender. see how its not quite rounded off the edge? i'm not a body guy, but it seems to have a flat spot in it.

and here's some random shots of the car. you can tell when the pic was taken. the shiny ones are right when the paint was wet. some of them were taken as the gun was passing over, other's after..

remember the rust spot back here, looks pretty good now.

no more giant hole in the rocker panel!

alright, i think thats all for tonite. i think its coming together quite nicely. i have however changed my mind, again, on the color. its still going to be blue, only a different shade of blue. its going to be more of a pearl blue. still, a very nice color i think. thanks for tuning in again....

nice work man keep it up....but isnt this in the wrong forum? apperances next to everyone elses project? i wouldnt want this locked though
You don't remove rust by putting a piece of sheet metal over the hole with a rivet gun. I hope you cut ALL of the rust off, before you started putting the sheet metal over it.

yeah, i know. i just got the email, kinda pisses me off. i painting on friday and am going to take tons of pics. lol. i know pop rivets don't fix rust, thats why the rust was cut out, if you notice the shape of the metal that was placed over it thats how big the hole was and a little more. but yeah, its being done the right way. no cheating here, except for the putty
yes, we removed all rust, then riveted that piece on...working on a limited budget right now. had option to replace hatch. did not choose. in future if he wants me to paint one, i will. free of charge. just use leftover touch-up paint.

haha, got an engine stand at an auction today for 12 bucks. decent shape too! oh, and i fixed my pictures. 3.95 a ****ing month for unlimited bandwidth. wtf. whatever. well, i ordered my paint today. i chose to got with ultra blue pearl. its a summit racing brand paint. looks to be pretty nice. here's the link. and here is a pic of the lump from the website. i wanted to go with a darker color, but i'm trying to do this on a budget

What type (brand) of primer are you using? Are you using a flex agent on the bumpers?
Personally, I think metallic blue looks nasty on EF's. I'm not sure why. You ever seen an EF hatch/CRX painted EBP? I think it looks disgusting. I think it's something about the square body lines aren't well suited to a blueish color.
Why not stay with a nice bright white?

well, to a point i guess i can see what your saying. a blue ef isn't really all that popular. but my interior is blue, and i thought i'd try to stay uniform. i have a white grand cherokee, and i don't really like white. i've never had a car with a "new" paint job, only spray bombs. i think i'll like it. at least, i hope i will. lol. as far as the brand of primer, i'm not sure what it is exactly. next time i go to the shop, i'll get the can and take a pic of it. its not called a primer though, its a sealer. my bad... and i figure, if i don't like the blue, i can always change the color to something else. besides, this painting thing is kinda fun,

im sorry, but i strongly disagree that blue looks bad on ef's...my first crx was painted electron blue pearl and i loved it! i thought it really made the car stand out and looked sick.
