Today my buddy DSRxSalsa, aka Hugo, came over and helped me with getting some welding done. I got a few holes welded up in the engine bay and got the lower Radiator support welded on... Heres the results...
Brand New OEM Lower Radiator Support just came in.

Some Practice welds on the Old Radiator support to get the heat settings just right.

Getting everything lined up and spot welded.

Finishing up the lower Radiator Support.

Working on the engine bay!!!

Looks like a bunch of pimples or chicken pox everywhere...

Kinda what it should look like. Still need to do some more grinding to clean it and smooth it all out... Got kinda lazy cause it was late, rainy, and getting kinda dark already... =\

These are some more pics from our engine bay project. It is taking a lot longer than I would like it to but the bay is coming out pretty nice.
Day 7: Freezing (by California standards) outside and windy as hell.
I took a couple more pics of my buddy welding some small areas. Today was the day that we played with heat settings and wire speed on the welder. Some of the holes in the engine bay are in some super thin metal. Tough to weld but we got it done...
We still have a day or two more in the garage to weld up the engine bay but here is what I got so far.
The Radiator support is done, or pretty much almost done getting shaved.

The driver side motor mount. I'm going to seem weld the motor mount also so I should have more updated pics later.

Some more pimples.

My Welder doing his thing...

I am going to try to finish up at least one shock tower today, I hope my poor compressor can take it. It is constantly on when I am grinding =\ Will post progress later tonight...

Ok, photos are uploaded. This engine bay shaving business is no joke. haha. This is my 8th day of actually working on the car. I got to shave the passenger side frame rail and got a lot of the shock tower done. It sucks using an air grinder to do this because my compressor is on the whole time. =\ Oh well, what can you do... For future refference, I am going to invest in an electric grinder...
Here we go!
The whole engine bay is welded up finally.

I had to drop the knuckles down to get the wholes in the shock tower. I didnt wanna have pits n stuff so I made sure to spend a lot of time here.

Before:

After:

This copper block made alot of the whole plugging easier, and cleaner...

Doing some Grinding to get everything smooth...

The End, for now:

man, its too much work.... cant wait til its done... air gridingers FTL, but they are the only ones small enough to get into small spaces, got any suggestions?
I am going with a new color. Haven't picked a color yet. Still got a lot of work to do before I can worry about that...

how much do you have to grind in the small space? you can try using a dremel w/ grinding wheel attachment...those are pretty small. or get a smaller angle grinder, ive used really small ones in class.
from viewing your hatch and others who are running H2B's, there is no way to completely close the hood without lifting the back of the hood up? are there any other clearance issues?

I am thinking that is what I will have to do today... I'll be using a dremel and also a huge electric grinder to get the welds down, then do the cleaning up with the angle grinder...
