My Honda Beat Project - A technical deconstruction of a little known Honda.
Man I want a Beat hah. Soo cool.. Ill be watching this thread.
I remember seeing a Beat at Michener Allen awhile back, this wouldnt happen to be the same one would it?
Also, just curious, im around 6' tall as well, how high does your head stick up in relation to say the top of the windsheild? How much headroom do you have with the top up?

I'm just over 6 feet tall and I fit comfortably in a beat. Getting in and out can be slightly awkward especially with the top up, but once you're in it's fine top up or down. A couple of chunky friends of mine, one is 6'4", went for a drive in my beat and said it was ok for them.
Top down you're head is not sticking up above the windsheild, you sit very low in the car. I have too many cars so I might sell mine if you really want one.

Hi Sol
I've been a Beat owner for about 6 months now and I was wondering what you did with the original E07, if you still have it, I'd like to buy it for spares!
thanks, you can email me at hothybrids@hotmail.com

One thing I cannot figure out is the shift linkage.....
Makes me want to get one and slap a K in there....lol.

The shift linkage is actually very simple problem to overcome. One cable controls the left and right movement of the stick shift, the other controls forward and back.. so really all you have to do is recreate the movement of a solid linkage by fabricating a mount for the cables, and a small linkage to attach to the gear selector..

That is awesome, glad to hear this thread has helped someone!
Please feel free to post a few more pictures of your Beat.

Update time..
My neighbour is letting me use his garage for a few weeks so I can finish my suspension setup for the rear. I tried using my driveway, but it is not level enough to plumb-bob with any accuracy.
Mapping out the stock suspension points

32mm splined hub and LCA from a first gen Acura Integra (86-89)

Little somethin I picked up for the project..

Now the problem I have encountered is that the first gen teg knuckle uses a different diameter of strut than all other mac-strut Honda's. This would not problem except that there is no spring over the first gen strut. All of the spring loads come from what honda referred to as a "torque tube", essentially a spring loaded (think garage door spring) rod with an arm at the end that connects to the LCA - aka torsion bar suspension. So this means I have to find some tubing with the same inner diameter as a standard Honda macpherson strut, weld it on to the strut, and machine it to the 1st gen Integra strut ID.
The difference in strut outside diameters is quite small, 41.66mm for the 90-01 Teg and 45.08mm for the 86-89 = 3.42mm. It is enough however, that the strut would not fit securely into the knuckle.
86-89 Teg torsion bar suspension

The decision to use the first gen teg knuckles came after a failed attempt to use machined 32mm spline hub to fit the Beat knuckle. I decided because I could not replace the Beat bearing it was not a good idea, plus the fact I would have to machine the outer axle stubs to fit into the back side of beat knuckle. Too much machining, too many custom parts; I want to use as many OEM parts as possible with as little machining as possible.
Here are the pictures of that failed endeaver though..
Integra 32mm on the left, Beat 26mm on the right.

Machined to the same size OD within 0.0003"

Polished with 2000 grit

Cheers,

Updates are coming, just busy with school at the moment and trying to work on my Del Sol too. I'll hopefully have a chance to produce some parts for the Beat in the next few weeks. I have the rear suspension all drawn out, I just need to spend some time on a mill (or CNC) and make them.
I try.. I get bored easily and this is what I do to keep my interest in the car.. that and I see the potential from things that are easily underestimated.
