Power Steering Rack in an EF
Okay,
I'm building a new EF rally car, and I want to address the steering rack while the motor is out. My daily driver EF has lackluster steering feel vs. my Integra GSR with power steering. I'd like to correct this.
I've heard and read that the way to go is to use a power steering rack, but either vent it or alternatively (better method) take the pressure seals out and grease the sucker like a manual rack.
So that is what I'd like to do.
I have a steering rack (and subframe) from an 1994 Integra LS. I also have a bunch of EG and EF subframes, as well as EF racks.
I took a look at them briefly this weekend, and I'm not sure if the Integra rack will mount up to the EF subframe.
Does anyone know? If the Integra rack won't mount directly, will the subframe bolt up?
-k

Do they make an EF power steering rack?
I've considered the Quaife--was hoping to do it with the parts I already have. Sounds like might not be possible. May have to just pony up for the Quaife unit.

Yes the 88-91 4dr Civics had power steering. A few of the 88-91 Hatches did as well. You'll need the front subframe from a PS car as well as the steering rack to make it work
you can pickup a rebuilt EF power steering rack on ebay for about $65 shipped
i just got got one off ebay last month myself. lookup this seller on ebay

I have done this swap in my road race car and love it (i'm lazy)
I used an 88 LX 4 door for my donor car.
You need the rear sub frame the rack of course, lines, pump, reservoir and pulley from said donor car.
Other than that it's a direct bolt on/in. I also run the AEM P/S pulley on the pump to speed it up so it can keep up. Beware when ordering the AEM pulley's as one of the pumps has been discontinued by AEM can't remeber which.
I can take pictures if you need

Correct me if Im wrong but isnt the HF manual rack a quicker ratio than the Si? I swear I remember reading about that somewhere back in the day. Finding one might prove to be difficult but Im sure the install would be much simpler.

If you can find an ef power steering rack it would be better than the eg one.
My old ef9 rally car had a lot more feel to it than my new eg6.
It was also better able to self straghten.
