Std to Si trans question
i have an 88 civic hatchback with std 4 speed manual transmission. D15B1 engine and I'm looking to do a ZC swap real soon....
my question is if i wanted to put a SI transmission in my car which one would fit and what would I need to make it work. This would be attaching to a Dohc zc engine.
Any help would help...lol thanks.

Is your car already 5 speed? If not you need new hubs from an si/dx. Yah any tranny will work but if its an 88 tranny make sure you have an 88 clutch

Im pretty sure that 88's had a different spline count, And you dont have to swap the hubs and axles, but you should. The std axles are like twigs

Well...this is what I expected, mixed reviews..thats all that on the internet on this damn subject...
anywho..so any transmission will bult up if i use the clutch i have?
as for the axles go, will Dx axles work? or do i need to get Dx hubs too?

You are not getting mixed reviews everyone said "It will bolt up" however there are some differences in the clutches which was said above.
And to do it properly you should swap stuff I listed below.
If you use DX/Si axles you are going to need the hubs/spindles/knuckles to accompany the larger size of those axles compared to the STD pieces.

I just swapped a 91 Si motor and 5spd into my std 4 spd car.I used my axles from the 4 spd and have no problems at all.The only reason you should have to buy new axles is if you swap to the Si or Dx hubs.

use your stock axles, stock hubs, and stock engine. Get a tranny of any year, (88-91) and get a clutch kit to match the TRANNY.

they can be used with the si tranny but if you used si/dx axels thats when you would need to change the hubs
the inner is the same it's the outer thats the problem

Let me try to dissect this so I can try to understand better. Please correct my errors in this. The tranny connects to the clutch disc, so you have to match up the tranny and clutch. The axles connect between the tranny and the hubs, so you have to match up the tranny and hubs with the correct axle. So will your tranny, clutch, axels and hubs have to all match? If he has the STD stuff now, will he have to convert all that to the SI stuff?

if he gets an 88 trans, he does not have to change anything since his car is an 88.
If he gets an 89 trans, he needs a 89 clutch disc because the number of splines changed on the trans input shaft.
if he gets a 90 and up trans, he can use the 89 clutch disc as well.
none of these scenarios require changing of the axles.. as about 5 people have already mentioned.

What about an HF?
If i get a ZC and decide to go with an Si tranny on my HF, will my HF axles and hubs bolt right into the Si tranny or will i need to get Si axles and hubs?

You will be fine with your hf hubs/axles and si trans. I got moded lol
