looks nice but you still need your distributor, I dont know how I like that part about it but I guess when some testing is done we will know how good it works.

We've been testing one for awhile now on an 800hp car, working perfectly. As with all COP setups, you must use resistor plugs. You still keep the distributor, but you dont need the coil, ignitor, rotor, or plug wires obviously..

Good to hear someone is testing this. I am curious how far it will go before you need to start considering putting a CDI box with it.

At what plug gap is it working perfectly at?

How come this can not work with a cam and crank tr
.

It works with a cam and crank trigger that comes inside the honda distributor.

I'm going to assuming you mean a T1 style ("hall effect") cam trigger sensor? It's not the new device that wont work with a hall effect sensor, it's the Honda ECU. It's like asking why your FM radio wont pick up Satellite radio. The Honda ECU doesn't know how to decode that type of sensor. Maybe that's the next product for OBD1 Honda? :P

I'm wondering how Hondata made this thing proprietary?

locash 04-09-2011 07:46 PM

Re: Hondata CPR

It's currently proprietary, as only the S300 is set up to output the proper signal to it on the ALTC output pin.. I'm sure that eventually one of the other OBD1 programming softwares will support it, if any of their authors still update their software, lol.

Cool, I just.don't see the purpose.if your still using.the dizzy. Seeing a distributor with no wires on it etc will make the engine bay look retarded. Don't really see the advantage. And I assume its using internally ignited coils also?

Re: Hondata CPR

Joe, the advantage is not just for the show car guys! lol. You can use it with internally ignited coils, or with a CDI box like the Pro14 or ProDrag4.. Advantages are obviously:

4 coils > 1 coil
reliable ignition controller > stock ICM
No wobbly rotor to wear out > crappy plastic rotor
less moving parts
You can now have a use for a fully polished T1 Spark Plug Wire Cover. :)

So, I know you're smarter than that Joe.. Stop thinking like a show car clown (remember that billet distributor cap blockoff plate we talked about many moons ago? LOL) and think of the advantages on the power side of the coin.

Wondering the same, and at what point a CDI is needed.

im w/ Joe on this. i just dont see the real advantage if your still relying on the distributor as the trigger.

make it work w/o the dizzy and im in :P

Good thing my name is Joe too. :)

The triggers in the distributor have never been the weak part of the OEM Honda ignition system. If it used something that looked like the AEM EPM, how would that help anything besides aesthetics? Don't get me wrong, ask anyone, I doubt everything until I either test it myself, or someone I trust to properly do the job tests it.

Amen? We arent in church here, nor are you rooting for some sort of Chinese HID kit that does nothing for performance. :) <-- cheap shot on my part, just trying to lighten the mood, lol.

this doesnt get rid of the ignitor (ICM)
the icm has to be there to drive the tach
