Default My idea of an Anti-Theft Hood Protection

so I had an idea, since the way MOST hondas are stolen these days (and the attempt made on my EK hatch was) I did this to all of my hondas.. and also re-routed the hood lock to under the hood with the addition of locking hood pins.

discuss.

you'd be able to pick the guy out from a line up.. just look for the bloody bandaged hand.

I f*ckin hate thieves

That would hurt. Not sure on the legality, but I like the idea

PS They would probably vandalize your car afterwards though.

That's why you need to make sure the blades are REALLY sharp. IF they can't stop bleeding, they won't give a crap about vandalizing anything

Or hell, just add a few more blades.

sweet, people shouldn't stick their hands where they don't belong

yea, I had friend with similar setup under his audio wires under the dash, came out one day to find car had been slim jimmed and there was some blood on the carpet, but his stereo was all there untouched.

you can do this to many parts, lips for example,
yea, go ahead Mr. ******** Thief, yank hard on that lip with hidden razor blades installed to try and rip it off,
ouchy ouch, to hell with thieves

you could also super-glue them on and remove with pliers or whatever when you need to

and , yes "IF they can't stop bleeding, they won't give a crap about vandalizing anything "

BigBlockCrx:

So you're gonna remember this lil trick when you sell or trade
the car? Too much thought went into this one . I had an installer
cut a tendon/artery because an owner forgot to inform us of their
little "anti theft" device. Thank god the trauma center was a few blocks away.

I gotta question...is there a security system on your car?

I thought about putting something like that in various places around my car. I was always afraid I would forget one day and get cut with them myself.

Is there even a way to get around locking hood pins?

I just scraped my OEM hood latch but I left the cable so the thief would be stumped.

I didn think they could get past locking hood pins or even regular hood pins that were made into locking pins

Here is a few hour, 25 dollar mod to not worry about your hood. [if you dont have fogs]

Buy a cheap 10 dollar trunk popper.
Buy a 1.5" few ring clamps.
Buy a few metal screws (1/4"-1/2" in length).
Buy a push button switch.
Buy wire 12-14 guage wire & misc connectors.
Remove bumper.
Mount the trunk pooper as far high as you can go and furthest away from the lock, under the lip onto which the bumper attaches.
Ground one terminal of the trunk popper by running a wire to some part of the frame.
Run the other terminal to the blue fog lights/accessory wire located somewhere behind the drivers side headlight.
Go into your under dash fuse box and find the fog lights terminal, connect wire to this.
Take this wire to one terminal of the switch.
The other side of the switch goes to a fuse and then to a +12v source (also in the fusebox).

This switch can be mounted anywhere at your discression, anywhere from the glove box, under head unit bin in Integras, under elbow center console compartment, under dash...etc.

Damn that's foul. lol.

I'm sure it would stop a thief then but I think he would come back later and vandalize the car.

Yeah, but then they wouldn't be able to yank the hood cable from the fender. Wire it to a switched souce, and then you'd need the key to use it.

Where'd you get the hood pop? What kind did you use, and did it bolt in? I think I'd like to try this.

Man no imagination do you...okay I'll spell it out for you.
On Hondas and other cars...the hood can be opened
from outside of the car....many times without triggering the
security system ( if you have one). Sucks to be you.

Now this mod can be done in two ways.
a. Disable the the hood release..pull the inside handle
nothing happens...pull out the lights ( WTF no cable )
push the switch...hood pops ( easily hidden )
b. electronically lock the hood. Pull the release/or
cable nothing...button must be pushed to release hood.
simple.

make sense now

Yes. actually I just started doing this to all my cars. I havent sold one yet. but I did have a chance to have one of my EKs almost stolen before I thought of this. I'm just imagining the loud screams the thief would have made in front of my work, people standing about 300 ft away smoking thier cigarettes and this kid would have been running and bleeding everywhere.. and then they would ask 'how did you do this?' , 'why was your hand in the fenderwell?' ahahhaha

I know its evil.

I also had the idea of installing it under the dash, but something like that might happen to me, or my wife, or a friend of mine. NO ONE SHOULD BE UNDER THE FENDERWELL FOR ANY REASON!!. plus there isnt a hood latch cable in there anymore either, so if your my friend, you would have known this.

so for the under the dash part with the alarm, I just cut some sheet metal out, and covered the whole underside of the dash area including the fuse box, makes it REALLY difficult if you blow a fuse, but, also makes it really difficult for any unwanted attention to rip the alarm out from under the dash or even try to 'hot wire it', since its pushbutton start and the wires are feeding into the 'covered' area.

a little overkill, but like someone said on this board, there should be a forum dedicated to stolen hondas/acuras

if you dont like the idea of the razor blades.. I highly suggest you guys re-route your hood cable to under the hood, and put a piece of metal in front of your hood latch to cover the hood latch cables, thats the LEAST amount of protection you could do.

Its your car...But there are many ways to keep low lifes
away and on to more desirable targets. I have been doing security
for over 20 years..so I have a few ideas that I'll gladly share.
Some I have posted in other threads.

Its a decent idea upfront...but it doesnt account for the fact that
you can be sued by anyone who gets hurt in your car ( even
doing something illegal
). Yes it sucks but true. Some years
ago a petty thief got a $100,000.00 settlement from a car owner
who had 'screamers' ( mini sirens) installed inside the car, which
caused permanent hearing loss in one ear...during
his attempt to steal the guys radio. Yep right here in Illinois.

Just wanted to let those who want to try this..to consider all the
options.

Thanks for answer the question above....

I got them off of some cheapo site for 9 bucks plus shipping. I bought two for around 25 bucks. To mount it you put a screw through the ring clamp and secure that to your body, then slide the solenoid in the clamp and tighten it down. I did two and it holds like a rock.

I wonder if you can circumvent the legallity issues by putting a window sticker somewhere on your car, like the hood or something, kinda like business do with wet floor signs. If you didnt see the sign, its not their fault.
