Just Yanked the Resonator, What the Hell was that For?
Just yanked the resonator out of the car and it is much louder when VTEC hits - no doubt.
What exactly was that resonator for? Just sound dampening?

Yanked
Sound deadening indeed. It's useless and it weighs something, therefore it must go.

Actually whne i dyno'd my R I made less power with the resonator out. the R box is MUCH nicer than the GSR and others box. Pull from a cool air source.

I can prove it.
Here is my car stock with 12k miles
Here is my car stock with 12k miles and no resonator.
2.7 hp loss.
Also gained 2.5 hp from a K&N drop in and only 4 whp from an AEM.
I just bought a 1998 R that is stock with 35k miles. I have an AEM, ICeman, Dropin Filter and I am gonna test some of these homemade icbox's. It will be a month or so but I will test the no resonator theory on this car as well. I hope to comparre them all and have a dyno overlay for everyone.

I hate the resonator. It's basically a muffler for your air intake.
I lost 3 hp just by taking out the resonator as shown above.

what exactly is the resonator, is it that black tube that is connected from the filter box to under the quarter panel?

Is it that the resonator draws cooler air from the fender what if you just run a 3" tube or something from the airbox to the front of the car or something. and plus everyone knows you can't make the same exact numbers on a dyno so i still believe that removing the resonator doesn't make a difference. so it's like Ripley's believe it or not

What do you mean dyno numbers can't be reproduced? I never said I woudl get the exact same numbers but I would be within .5 hp of those reults and it is as likely to get worse as it is to get better.
I am not saying the resonator is a good thing I am saying removing the resonator and leaving the stock airbox open with no modification is of no benefit.
Just my findings. I will try this on my new Type-R and post the reults to show if they are duplicateable or not.
