Difference in misfire and backfire?
While looking through the results of a search I found an old post about "feeling" the difference between misfire and backfire, although no one replied to it.
I'm having a problem while accelerating beyond 50% throttle (any gear, any RPM)and would like to know if there is a difference in the way a motor feels when it is misfiring vs. backfiring.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Difference in misfire and backfire? (Electrodynamic)
backfire is an explosion of unburned gas in the exhaust system. wouldnt feel it, hear it but wouldnt feel it.
misfire would feel like someone poked you in the chest (slight if any jerk)

Thanks for the response. My car was jerking violently when accelerating using more than 50% throttle. I replaced the plug wires and it runs like a dream now. It was definately misfiring like a beyotch.
