This article applies to the Honda Civic (1992-2000).

There are a number of reasons why you might need access to a fog light wiring diagram for your car. Maybe you want to install a set of fog lights on your car that doesn't already have them, or perhaps you have an electrical issue you are trying to diagnose. Or, maybe you have a Japanese-spec car that you are trying to make legal for road use in the U.S. Many Civic owners don't realize that their JDM-equipped car features unique wiring in the fog lights that enables them to stay on, whether or not the headlights are on as well. This configuration may be legal in Japan, but it is not legal in North America. We've gathered up all the information you need to ensure your Civic remains legal, and to help with any potential installation or troubleshooting questions. Whatever the reason for your foglight inquiry, we've got you covered with our handy guide.

Installing Fog Lights on a Civic

If your Civic doesn't currently have fog lights and you want to install a set, rest assured that it's a pretty easy DIY. The process takes about 3-6 hours and you can check out this write-up for an excellent, step-by-step guide. There are some inexpensive kits available on sites like eBay and Amazon, but spending the extra money for an OEM set will pay off in the form of a better-quality relay and an OEM-style switch. Whatever choice you make on the type of kit you use, ensure the wiring is tucked away neatly to avoid damaging your new lights.

Fog Light Wiring Harness Diagrams for Troubleshooting

If you are having electrical problems related to your fog light wiring (or you want to DIY your wiring on a new installation instead of purchasing a harness), the best place to start is with a diagram. Make sure to use only a 10 amp inline fuse, as anything bigger or smaller can blow the fuse or damage the wiring. As seen in the figures above, the JDM harness has some noticeable differences from the USDM harness. The difference in wiring is what causes the aforementioned ability for the JDM fog lights to stay on, whether or not the headlights are on as well.
