FAQ: Civic Hatch and Sedan Front Bumper Differences Explained
Ok, this question has popped up from time to time and a definite answer seems to be elusive as the lack of photographic evidence. Hopefully I'll be able to get some pictures later in the comings week(s) to settle this.
Here is what I do know:
88-89 Civic Hatch / Sedan *OEM Part Numbers
89 LX Sedan 71101-SH3-960ZZ
89 Si Hatch 71101-SH3-960ZZ
89 DX Sedan 71101-SH3-000
89 DX Hatch 71101-SH3-000
88-89 Civic Hatch / Sedan *OEM Part Numbers
90 LX Sedan 71101-SH1-A10ZZ
90 SI Hatch 71101-SH0-A10ZZ
90 DX Hatch 71101-SH0-A00
90 DX Sedan 71101-SH1-A00
-- In the 88-89 model years, the bumpers are the same. The Upper level models share a common bumper, and the lower level models share another bumper. Hatch = Sedan
-- The cars have the same wheel-base.
-- Edmunds.com states the 1990 Civic Hatch has a width of 66.3 inches while the 1990 Sedan has a width of 66.7 inches. Measurements for the 1989 models can not be obtained.
Question
What is the difference between the 1990 Model years that would make the bumpers non interchangeable compared to the 1989 models?

Sweet.

In theory: yes. Lip would be get the but the Fog lights would depend more on the mounting structure behind the bumper for brackets and the likes. Also, this all depends on if the part numbers I received were correct.

Here is a picture of a genuine Honda 71101-SH0-A10ZZ. The cutout pattern for the dealer option fog lights is molded onto the back of the bumper cover.
