Will 225/45/15 on 7.5" rim rub? (G3 Integra)
Hello,
I was thinking of putting wider tires on the front for more grip. Does anybody know if 225/45/15 x 7.5" will rub? It is wider than stock, but actually slightly smaller diameter. I don't plan to drop the car (much). I've heard of 225's rubbing, but that was coz people were running on 17"+ rims, where the tire was actually larger diameter. I think I saw a post where somebody said that 225 works. However, that was on 7" rims, which is the minimum recommended width for this tire (Hankook RS2). I don't know if 7.5" will actually make the tire much wider, since the tread width is already wider than the rim anyway.
As for the rear, I might be satisfied with running 205's. Would a 6.5" or 7" rim be better?

If you want more grip, worry about getting better, stickier tires, rather than wider tires.
You'll get a lot better grip with the Falken Azenis RT-615 in 205/50-15 than you will with the Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212 in 225/45-15.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I chose the RS2 over the Azenis for:
slightly better tread life
quieter
better rain grip
at the cost of slightly less dry grip.
Azenis get artificially inflated performance scores because they are plus sized anyway

Absolutely WRONG. Apparently you are under the misconception that treadwidth makes a big difference in performance. That's wrong, too. The big difference between tires is due to their design features - tread design, compound, etc, much MUCH more than treadwidth. The Azenis gets better performance scores because it is a better, grippier tire than the Hankook, due primarily to its soft compound and large tread blocks, not because it is slightly wider. And there's nothing "artificial" or "inflated" about the scores, as anyone can see in the test in Grassroots Motorsports. The Azenis is just a better performing tire. Period.
