Which Tire, and Which Size: Azenis RT-615 vs. Toyo T1-R
Buying new tires. Either Falken Aznenis RT-615 or Toyo T1-R. I am looking at either 205/50-15 or 195/50-15.
I have Rota Slips 15x6.5 rims with an offset of 40. I know I wont have any rubbing issues with that.
But I may sell the Rotas and buy some Stock 96 GSR wheels (not blades). They have an offset of 45. Now would 205/50-15's rub on those rims? I have a 92 Integra GS-R.
How are the Falken's in rain? I want something that is good in rain. I know the Toyo's should be pretty good in rain, but they are $50 more than the Azenis. Just wanted to know how the Azenis perform in rain.

Stock is 195/60-14*. The 205s will work better. It should also a perfect size for 6.5" rims, not stretched or bulged.

From what I remember reading around here the RT-615 is not the best in the rain. The Goodyear F1 GS-D3 is much better. Hope fully someone else can fill in the blanks for the pros and cons of each tire (*cough* *cough* ....Ken?)
More reponses should come in tomorrow,
Cheers.

ya i want the 205's.. They are a little wider and offer more grip.
I ya I might go the Goodyear route.. I want something great in both rain and dry.

don't confuse wider with better grip, especially in the rain. Just wait till tomorrow for more opinions before you make a decision.

Re: (92integraVTECgsr)
Sorry, a bit more looking: more good choices are; Kumho Ecsta SPT, the Yokohama AVS ES100, or Dunlop Direzza DZ101. All should have good wet traction. I really don't know too much about rubber though. Hopefully the guru of vulcanization (nsxtasy) will be on here in the morning and sort you out.
Cheers.
p.s. why the other post?

Re: Which Tire, and Which Size: Azenis RT-615 vs. Toyo T1-R (92integraVTECgsr)
Your '92 GS-R came with 195/60-14 tires stock. 205/50-15 is your best bet for size, even better than the 195/55-15 which is best for the '94 and later GS-R. The 195/50-15 size you mentioned is too small for your car.
The Azenis RT-615 is the stickiest street tire around. So if you care ONLY about dry traction, that's the tire to get. However, if you care about wet traction, there are lots better tires around (even though the RT-615 isn't as bad as its RT-215 predecessor, most other tires are just better at this). Also, the RT-615 wears extremely rapidly, so you might go through 2-3 sets in the same number of miles that a single set of other tires lasts.
The Goodyear that old man neri mentioned doesn't come in 205/50-15.
The three budget performance tires that old man neri mentioned are all very good on dry pavement, and outstanding in rain. They are very similar to each other in performance, but very different in price for 205/50-15. The Dunlop Direzza DZ101 is $45 at Edge Racing, and the Tire Rack currently has a $50 rebate on a set of four that makes their price almost exactly the same. The Kumho Ecsta SPT is $61, and the Yokohama ES100 is $75. These are all very good tires, although not at Azenis levels of dry traction, and the Dunlop is an incredible bargain.
If you're looking for a step up in performance from those three tires, you can get a bit more performance by spending more money, either for the Kumho Ecsta MX ($80) or the Toyo T1-R ($90).

and...........editied. I don't know how that one got by me. Of course it's not like it's the first time.
The eagle F1 does come in 195/50-15. It's doable although not the best size. I have no idea if the size differential is worth advantage if any. Again, I really know nothing about rubber.
Cheers.

Re: Which Tire, and Which Size: Azenis RT-615 vs. Toyo T1-R (Type X)
Just wanted to add 195/50/15 or 205/50/15...while if you go Azenis you don't have a choice, they only have 205/50/15 available in 15" as of now.
I've had Toyo Proxes 4, Hankook Z212 and now i'll be mounting Azenis RT-615 is about 2 weeks. Tire wear is a concern with super sticky tires like Azenis, however if maximum dry grip is what your after then thats your tire. If you want good grip and a tire that will last longer then 12,000MI, then you may want to look into other tires. Also if you want something good in the rain, you want a tire like NSXatcy stated, Goodyear or such. RT-615 will get by in the rain, but speaking from experience with the Hankook Z212 you do not want to be pushing these types of tires in the rain. 1 - they are meant for max dry traction and 2 - they often just don't have the channels a good rain tire does to channel the water away.
Sounds like to me, you want to avoid the RT-615 and look into others

You should be able to count on 10K miles out of a set of the RT-615. At 1500 miles a month, that's about seven months. You might get more (or less), of course. For maximum treadlife, check the pressure at least once a month, and rotate the tires to even out the wear.

195/55-15 or 205/50-15 are fine, and there are plenty of tires available in both those sizes. 195/50-15 is really too small for a GS-R; you can fit them on the car, but there's absolutely no reason to do so.

I meant 205/50/15 is the Azeni 15" so it narrows the choice down, since 195 is not available

You can drive in rain with any tires. But some tires are better than others. And almost all other tires are better than the new Azenis (which are still better than the old Azenis). They're not exactly bad, but most other tires are better.
If you don't care how good your tires are in the rain, then get the Azenis. If you're looking for a tire that does pretty well in the rain - meaning, better than many other tires - then the Azenis is not a good choice.
